Its never been said what state they live in, anytime its about to be said either someone gets in the way of a map its being pointed out on or whoevers saying it gets drowned out. Thats probably the longest running joke in the series.

In the episode "The Front" Bart and Lisa made an Itchy and scratchy Cartoon. They got Grandpas name "Abebraham Simpson". The creators of the simpsons did not know this and had to look back in the episodes to find this fact out.

The simpsons live in a northern state. This is when they wanted to change their state flag which was a confederate flag becasuse they were a northern state.
Tennesse is directly south from them Arlen Texas is 2,000 miles away from them. |

And as said before it has never been said where its meant to be in the show. Untill the creators say otherwise all that is speculation. |
im tired of official stuff cuz they get flamed hellfire:

They don't live in ANY STATE!
Springfield was chosen because it is the most common name for a town in the US. There are something like 14 different Springfields. If they were to live in one state, it would have to be a state with a nuclear powerplant, be on a ocean, be cold enough for snow in the wintertime, and many other requirements that I don't really want to have to think about cause I don't care that much. To say they lvie in a certain state is stupid. They don't live in a state. It is a cartoon. In cartoons, anything can happen. This is why they don't live in a state. |
they cant actually live in any kind of state because they're two dimensional characters. they live in a universe that is created to mock and poke fun at our own. gerv is right, its the longest running joke of the series and will be as long as you guys keep fighting about it.
