I know that crackle/tear effect is some kind of brush or filter and I see everyone use it, so please tell me what it's called

all i used in that was this

and a picture of peeling paint

plus a little lasso/eraser work

Anyway, I would try that by finding pics like [url=http://www.mayang.com/textures/Nature/images/Earth%20and%20Dirt/Soil%20Dust%20Sand%20Mud/P3230100.JPG:0c04f]this[/url:0c04f] and messing with them until the contrast and such fits.
