Headphone/Audio question

I have a set of logitech x-620 6.1 surround speakers.

They work awesome and I am happy with them. Today I went out to get a pair of headphones. I settled on the Koss UR-18. I read some reviews and these were in my price range and are very comfortable.

My question is that when I plug the headphones into the jack on my x620's, the x620's don't even have to be on to hear sound. It doesn't matter if its on or not. And the volume control knob on the 620's doesn't work either. The only way to turn up or down the vollume is by changing the volume slider in winamp or whatever other app i'm running.

Is this normal? I tried it out on some other headphones and it does the same thing leading me to believe this is the way the speakers were made to be. I was really used to having to turn on the speakers to get sound out, and you could adjust the volume with the knob on the speakers. It's not a big deal, but I would like to know. Thanks.

My volume on my cheapo speakers works with headphones. Also, headphones work even when its "off". I have a volume slider on the headphones I use.

The volume knob should work, I think.

the volume knob should not work, as it is only sending the headphones to the computer, and NOT conducting the sound. the only way you should be able to change the volume not on the pc, is thru a knob on the actual headphone cord, or some headphones have a knob on the actual headphone part.

Great. Thanks for the answers guys.

The headphones don't have a knob so i'll have to change it in the pc.

Now that I think about your explanation himmler, it makes sense why it works when the speakers are off.

glad to help dance:
p.s. if u want u can get certain keyboards that enable u to adjust volume, like press buttons up and down which change the pc volume, the same as moving the slider up or down in the taskbar

Why do my $50 Labtec speakers volume knob work with my headphones, even when the power is off?

Bucknub 10-15-2004 09:42 PM
