Well I have ISDN and can crank it to 128K when I need to. I have found this is more than enough. 64K is usually fine.
In fact most servers I come across in my limited exp. are just guys running the game on their own PC and not dedicated servers. Once they get more than 3 or 4 players, THEIR system can't cope, not the bandwidth. I've had <100 ping and still get lag. That's THEIR PC, not my connection. Try a dedicated server and you'll see what I mean. I played for a few mins last night on one of the gamedomain test ones. Ping 150. 32 Players all going for it, no lag at all. Later, 73 Ping. 5 Players, different server. Tons of lag. I could be wrong, but that's my conclusion. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/wink.gif Steel |
I think you should get cable.DSL, there both fast and realiable!

Anything is better than Modem.

Steel is right. Part of it depends on your ping to the server. But another big part is what kind of server it is. Serve and play servers are very unstable. The more people on it, the lagier it gets. Dedicated servers are much better, and more stable. So, look for a low ping server, and one that is dedicated, not server and play.
Hope out |
I have dial-up connection only and I am concerned with speed. What are your thoughts?
|
It all depends on you finding a server with a low ping. I have cable and If my ping is not under 120ms I don't even bother.

How do I check the ping rate?
|
Every external or ingame browser has ability to organize the game with ping value, you should see it always when you're about to connect the game. Just find the game with lowest ping value and off you go http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif
