Anybody help me out here? How would I exactly would I define Logos, Pathos, and Ethos within the context of a letter? Like this should be logos...........

How do I tell that this is an example of logos?

Logos = "speech", or what is said, it is especially applied to prose pieces and non-fictional accounts (like the example you have given), it is also applies to works of fiction in myth in that it fuctions the same as the word 'version'. So the odyssey is a story translated by many people, each version is therefore a logos.

Pathos = Sympathy evoked from the reader by the text.

Ethos = The character, sentiment, or disposition of a community or people, considered as a natural endowment; the spirit which actuates manners and customs; also, the characteristic tone or genius of an institution or social organization.


i googled the last one, as I had a hard time putting it into words, that is a fairly good description of ethos though...
