Performance Problem

Hi,

I have my friend's PC here and It's having all sorts of ping problems.

It's running a 3000+ XP on a Asus A7N8X-E, with a gig of ram, 7200 120Gb drive & a Nvidia 5900XT.

It worked fine a while back but all of sudden now the ping reaches stupid heights.

Works ok when on your own or out of the way of people but when face to face with another player jumps around and/or goes to slow motion.

I would think it's the graphics cards, but I have swapped it our for another and it's still the same. Memtest the memory and swapped that out also ... but no change. Swapped out the disk drive also and re-installed the OS .... still crap. I have even changed the IDE cable, but I am running out of ideas now.

Anyone got any ideas ... the only other thing I can think of is the board and I do not know how to test that ?

Could it be anything in the game itself that I can change.

Someone ... anyone .... please help.

What is your Rate?

If you completely run out of ideas. Uninstall it and say, "I am a cold body with a loss of self-esteem." -Or something that doesn't actually make sense. oOo:

My Rate ?

What, How and Where ?

If you mean the ram it's DDR400.

BIOS states:

CPU External Freq = 200Mhz
Mem Freq. = By SPD
Resulting Freq. = 200Mhz

Like I said, this was working fine for about 2/3 months and now something has gone wrong somewhere.

Ideas ?

are you playing online or playing single player? (if its online whats your connection speed)?

Dagnabit! From the title of this thread I thought we were going to talk about where you can warez some Viagra. ed:

I think the issue of lagging when you get near another player has more to do with the server that you are on, the ping of the player in question, etc. I've noticed on some of the PA servers that any time I get near a specific player I start lagging. Very strange. I look at the pings and the guy will have a good ping....but I can't get near him without tons of packet loss.

Try visiting some servers closer to your house and see if the problem persists.

try to scan that pc and check for problems, when i have bad ping i allways scaning my pc and then it work fine.

use-
1)registry Mechanic (for probs)
2)ad-aware (for bugs)
3)anti virus ofcorse
4) any programs you have (to scan for errors)
5) restart your pc stupid:
6)close any programs that using the internet (kaza, emule, etc.)

Single player seem to be ok, although I am not going too far into that.

Ok ... I have this PC on a LAN with mine and they do not compare with ping speeds on the same server ... so that rulez out the server lag thing. One runs between 20-40 and the other at anything from 50-350 ping.

Oh ... and I have a 1.5Mb cable connection FYI.

The last comment is also ruled out at this is a brand new XP install.

I have also tried a different nic, but still no difference.

Thanks for your suggestions, but keep 'em coming chaps I am truely stumped.

Retarded question, but have you tried reinstalling/updating drivers or anything else.

Always worth asking m8

Yep ... I loaded in the latest nvidia drivers and flashed the board also.

Good point. Might have something taking up some bandwidth every few minutes.

pagebloke 12-19-2004 02:43 PM

Good point, but this is a fresh install friends.

Godsmack 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

take the computer back to the store and get your money back
