why do you set your msn status to 'away'?

those who just sign on msn only to immediatley put their status to away and/or busy, why fuck do you do this? it's unbelievably annoying. if you don't want to chat with people or are too busy, why sign in? this is a chatting service, not a 'let's test if my away status will work, and if it does, let's leave it' service.

even when you go to bed, you leave it on away. just sign the fuck out. if you think the only way people will contact you is through msn, think again. there is also email. There are currently 12 people online on my msn, but only 1 is idle and the rest are set to away/busy. WTF is the point? please tell me members of gf1.

if I do it, I am always near my computer, watching a movie or playing a game, or Im getting something to eat.

so why the hell do you do it?

I never set my status to away. I just sign off if I'm done with MSN.

Tripper 04-12-2005 12:46 AM

I do it so people know I'm online, but that I'm not at the computer. If you sign out, people can't leave you messages.

Pretty straightfoward. oOo:

but, Im referring to people that are not actually near their computers. They just sign in and set it to away and just leave for work/school ect.

I often leave my computer on whilst i go downstairs so i put my msn on away. Nothing wrong with it to be honest. I just end up with people sending me 532262636774 nudges oOo:

My daughter does that with AIM. Drives me nuts. She'll leave an away message that says she's gone to school or that she's turning it in for the night. Duh!! Like all of her friends are not at school or asleep!

I can understand that she wants people to leave her notes while she's gone. But it still drives me nuts.

I always leave away messages but they never say where i actually am. There is a reason i'm away and like hell you need to know why.

My favorite one from yesterday:

"Shut off all the compactors on the detention level"

bukdez 04-12-2005 07:58 AM

i leave msn on all the time, just lazy i guess... i set it to away when i'm away...

Zoner 04-12-2005 08:05 AM

I'm only on MSN when I'm at work, so if I'm set as "Away", I'm actually away from my desk momentarily.

I see where you're coming from, though. It's almost as annoying as people who quote lines of songs in their names and change it on a daily basis. I have no fucking clue who half of you fruits are anymore. annoy:
