You can do much better. What do you intend on doing with that pc ?
|
Gaming... I don't have a lot of money, and this is what I think I can afford, and when I have more money I could just trade-in for an upgrade or something.
|
2000 american is a ridiculous price
edit: wtf get at least a gig of ram |
it does seem kind of expensive for what youre getting... not sure on the cost of that processor tho. i might would try new egg for the parts and put them together yourself ... you might save 1000 bucks.
|
i paid 1500 canadian for mine.. ok my processor isnt top of the line, and my video card isnt 256mb, but everything else I have is the same, and my sound card was better and my HD was better..
Why would you get a top of the line processor when everything else is just mediocre? ps: dont get a 7.1 soundcard if you only have 5.1 speakers....its a waste, and you will never get true 7.1 sound even if you have the speakers. |
A 4000+ is overkill for gaming. A well cooled and overclocked 3200 is more than
enough: the idea is to get a very good videocard so don't cheap out. While it IS performant, the 9800 will have difficulties with many upcoming games at higher resolutions. Get an x800 and 1GB of quality RAM. Everything else is accessory... This goes without saying, but don't cheap out on the mainboard: get something good. Remember, it's the most critical part ;-) |
Alls I know is that, its a pretty high price. For the same amount of money you could get better. Do what they said and check out http://www.newegg.com and build your pc on there, make sure you get the right stuff. I have been in your shoes and its by FAR better to build one then have one built. Especially if its for gaming. If your shooting for a VERY LOW budget pc say $500 USD, then buying a pre-built one is the way to go, however, not in this case. Wait and see what all Akuma has to say about it, he has helped me out when I was putting together my new PC. Seeing as you are going for the AMD, I know he can help you MUCH better then I could. Best of luck.
BTW, where are you trying to buy this PC from? What PC Building Company? Most likely your paying for their Proud Ass Name. *cough* Alienware/Falcon ;) ;) |
I recently built a system mostly buying from newegg.

Speaking of the 6800GT Video card...I was wondering something. I will be ordering my new pc here in a couple of days and before I do so...is it worth the few extra bucks to get the 6800 256 PCI-E instead of the 6600GT 128 PCI-E? Just wondering which one will give me acutal better performance. I dont mind the price...on those...fine with either one...just want to know if the 6600GT 128MB > or < or = 6800 256MB? And yes I do realize there is a difference in Clock speeds and in Pipelines. Just curious. ;) Thx |
Go 128 gt.
The short answer on this rig is, more ram, and a current gen vid card of decent specs. It will last longer in terms of playabliity. You could also probably do withouthte 1.44 floppy since most mobo's will do cd boot. Id also go with a higher cap HD rather than a 10k. To save some cash you could downgrade the processor. 2.4 ghz [url:ee88e]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103484[/url:ee88e] 2.2ghz [url:ee88e]http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535[/url:ee88e] |
g dont go for the 10k drives unless your going to RAID 0 them, you wont see a huge increase in performace unless you do that.
|
RAID 0 doesn't do much besides give you a greater chance of data corruption.

I didn't, neither do most people.
Congrats if you did, though. |
