what's a good avi to mpeg conversion proggie?
 
the one I use WinAVI Video Converter, it seems to always hangs right at 99% and never finishes and just makes everything a complete waste of time.

I've used that program many many times to convert .avi and other movie types to mpeg 1 and 2. There are lots of plugins for that program that allow you to convert .mov files as well.
