Cell phone n00b questions...
Well I need a new phone, but not a new plan and phones are EXPENSIVE through cingular retailers... so...
How exactly does buying a phone off ebay work and getting it configured.. Can I buy any phone that is locked on cingular and just put my sim card into it? What exactly is a sim card and are they universal through phone brands? I tried searching google but didnt pull up anything useful. Thanks.. |
i think sim cards hold the info that were in your phone

I use sprint dude... but i got the 2500 minute plan shared with my mom.
Bonus though is that pcs to pcs of course is free and 7 pm starts the nighttime not 9 pm like verizon or other companies... along with free weekends blah blah blah... and i think they still have the buy one color camera flip phone and get the second free, i have that deal, only thing is it doesnt have speaker phone. |
If you are within X months of the end of your plan some companies will allow you to get a new phone if you are willing to extend your current contract. This is cool if you are happy with your plan because as you know you can get the hardware for next to nothing through these deals.
Contact your carrier and tell them that you want a new phone and if they can help you out. |
i got a gsm phone for .99 when i signed up for my contract rock:

Cingulair is the worst cell phone provider right behind Sprint.

Well see I dont have options like that, I get a really good plan deal through my dad's work but I dotn get any of the cheap phone deals etc. I just need to know that if I buy a cingular phone of, say ebay, I can physically remove thew "sim" card from my current phone, put it in that phone, and it will work like normal?

ya you can, most sin cards are right under the battery, as long as the sin cards format fits the phone you are using, older phones use bigger clunkier type chips, newer ones use really small ones, etc etc. gl. I swapped the sin card from an old nokia into ericsson phone awhile back. Worked perfectly.
