In The Name Of The Father

Just saw this film for the first time - Amazing movie. Absolutely brilliant, very powerful.

It's based on the true story of the Guilford Four, but focuses more directly on one of the four, Gerry Conlon (Daniel Day Lewis), and his father Giusseppe Conlon (Pete Postlethwaite)....

The IRA bomb a pub in england in the 70s, and the British authorities, sick of turning up nothing in the ongoing bombings, convict and imprison the Guilford Four as scapegoats, simply because they were Irish, and essentially in the wrong place at the wrong time. There's a bit more too it than that, but It'd take me a while to explain it all, and I think it's best if you go into it knowing little about it (How I saw it).....The acting is beyond amazing, and could easily be seen as the defining movie of the two lead's careers (Posthlewaite & Day-Lewis).

I believe it won a bunch of oscars when it came out in '93, so alot of you have probably heard of it/seen it...

If you haven't seen it, I thoroughly recommend it - Could be a nice gesture to watch it with your Fathers for Fathers Day, as it has some very strong father-son themes in it.

hmm kind of like how Worf was constantly trying to clear his father Mogh's name because Mogh was falsely accused of selling out the Klingons to the Romulans at Khitomer.

I was just going to say, that is the name of the David Koresh movie about the Waco Texas massacre. Then I realized I had thought it was about Koresh because Daniel Day Lewis looked like him and it was made around the same time (1993). Heh guess I was wrong.

Ja, definitely not about that.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of these types of movies usually, they all seem a bit overdone to me - But man, there is enough true stuff in here that is entirely shocking and amazing that I was thoroughly kept interested. It really is a tragic tale of wasted youth....
I couldn't believe some of the stuff that I saw, the claims made by the British authorities that held up in the court - Simply because of how pissed off the public were at the IRA....

One thing that struck me about it was how it was so not melodramatic. The story REALLY speaks for itself here. No overly-emotionally gripping musical score....Just wonderful acting and an amazing story....
