They do indeed need to be punished, but I don't know if killing them will set a good example. First of all, they see so much death and destruction in their daily lives that this might have a huge impact. Secondly, if we are there to instruct democracy and freedom, instituting the death penalty doesn't seem like a first step. Either way these guys deserve a punishment.

i believe if you take a life you need to have your life taken from you , no questions asked , unless its in self-defense

Forcebly excommunicating them from the Muslim faith is probably the worst punishment you could give to an militant.

And how the hell are you going to excommunicate them from Islam, force them to eat pork. Remember they can break any rules of Islam as long as they are in jihad.

Plus they don't have a figure like the Pope to do shit like that. I say let them rot in a jail cell for the rest of their miserable lives. Killing them does nothing, death doesn't scare these people.

^ true, it's kinda like the situation after the civil war. Lincoln was smart enough not to execute Lee and other rebels. He made Lee pay by planting the Arlington National Cemetary in his front lawn. If only we could do something like that to these people.

If you are absolutely hell-bent on "civilising" these people, (or bringing them around to Western thinking, if you will) which the 'Coalition of the Willing' is clearly trying to do, wouldn't it be better to not degrade yourself to the same murdurous level as these you wish to oust, and simply incarcerate the necessary people. Surely there has been enough killing.
