My PC at random intevals will just blackscreen and I'll either need to turn off the computer or reboot, I recently confirmed that when it does blackscreen my computer resets or does somthing becuase the HD light comes on. I've noticed that when I apply more thermal greas to my RAM controler and my processor the problem goes away, but it eventually comes backa again. What is the right method for applying heatsink gel becuase I put a glob on and spread it out but everytime I do that it just migrates from the center were it should be the sides and off the surface itself.

You should go to the hard forum and ask these type of questions because you never know if someone here is pulling your leg.

Remove your heatsink/fan. Clean both mateing surfaces with pure denatured alcohol using a lint free cloth like a coffee maker filter. Place a small dab of thermal greese in the center of the heatsink surface and spread it around with your finger inside a plastic baggie. Clean off the excess with a clean coffee filter. Now place a small dab in the center of the heat transfer surface of the cpu. Remount the heatsink, jiggle the heatsink around a little bit.

download a program to monitor your cpu temperature. This'll give us an idea on the whether the temperature is the actual cause of the problem. I've had my pc for about a year now and have never had to reapply my thermal paste.

Yeah thats what I did earlier and it's running very cool now, it went from idle of 125 to 112.

As you may recall I was having heat isues lately but make sure you DON'T use cpu temp programs coz they don't fucking work. Always use your BIOS temp readout as its correct, the program i used, motherboard monitor, said my cpu was 85 degrees C when it was actually 50.
Also one of the main problems of my overheat was that my CPU was running on 100%, so I disabled ALL of the startup items in MSCONFIG and started it up, problem fixed. After that you just have to be selective on which programs you really need to be starting with when you power up.

Also try Arctic Silver thermal paste.

Thats what I used, and now my temps idle around 102-106. Seems like my computer is running smoother too.
