Frustrating Problem *Fixed*

Every so often at random intevals wether my PC is idle or in use it will either lock up (Only when in Firefox) or my moniter will go black as if it had went into standby mode, anything I was doing will stop, if I were playing music or a game it would stop. The only way for me to get visual on my moniter again is to turn off my PC and turn it back on. This is becomming a big problem and I'd like to take care of it.

Moniter : ViewSonic G71F+
Video : eVGA GeForce 6600 GT 128mb
CPU : Intel P4 3.0Ghz HT
Mobo : ASUS P5800
Harddrive : Maxtor 300GB 7200RPM (New)
Sound : Audiy Sound Blaster LS 24-Bit
Memory : Corsair Value Select 1GB (512x2)

hard drive migth be failing ... is the first thing that comes to mind. how old is it ? could also be getting hot as shit.

there could be a process running in teh background that has stopped responding and caused you to lock up.

is anything in the event viewer after you restart?

could be getting hot, also check your powersave settings both on the computer and on the monitor. could also be a type of virus, though i have never heard of these effects. clear cache, scan, restart and check. makes sure all powersave settings are shut off

The hard-drive is brand new. Just got it yesterday. My powersave settings were only turn off moniter after 20 minutes nothing about hybernate or anything else. There is no way my PC is getting that hot, considering my room is really cold right now and the temp of everything inside is around 80-90 F, with CPU at only 105.

PS: Right now my temps are 75F for HDD, and 100 for CPU. So overheating is out of the question.
