In the written documentation in my newly bought EU version of MOH, it states that:
To host a dedicated server and make it visible to Gamespy you'll have to open both IP and UDP ports: 12203, 12204, 12205, 12206, 6667, 3783, 27900, 28900, 29900, 29901, 13139, 6515 Why this many ports? Who so goddamn complex? It has never been that complex with either Q2 or Q3 and this is the Q3 engine? We would like to host a couple of servers from inside our company with lots of bandwidth, but now we have to investigate if its worth it, because of the security issues involved! |
as long as there isnt anything else listening on those ports there isnt a problem. ill break it down
12203-06 are probably their challenge/listen ports 6667 is irc.....lamespy irc 3783 is roger wilco....again owned by lamespy 27/28/29900 are standard q3 ports the last 2 im not sure about. so unless you have something listening on these other ports there isnt a problem. you could always dmz the box and use a software firewall too. the security risk isnt that great....its a game server after all. hopefully you arent hosting it on production servers. |
Thanks for your reply, I'll check it out!
Wouldn't take away good MOH servers for the public ) |
