Recording sound

Is there anyway to record things that are playing in the BG of your computer. IE music, like is there a way to record it and put it into MP3 format.

Most Creative soundcards have a "What U Hear" feature that can capture whatever sound is playing at the time. You can use a sound editor like Soundforge, Cool Edit, or Goldwave to record the sound. Hell, Windows Sound Recorder might even work.

Theres a progam caled "totalrecorder" that can record any sounds that come fro your pc. Not sure if its freeware or the trial has a limitation on the recording time.
