Fish tanks

So anyone have a fishtank? I'm thinking about setting up a small one on my computer desk, like a 5 gallon. I just want some ideas of interior accessories that you guys have, If you have pics of your fish tanks, post them up.

I have owned fish all my life. a 5 gallon is easy to maintain as well since it is so small, but requires good upkeep (quick simple ect),

Keep to hardy fish, maybe a betta, fancy guppies, molly's, sword tails, iredecent sharks, redtail sharks, plecos or even black moors if you plan on going non tropical. 5 Gallon tanks are not good for fish which require regular care, such as Angelfish, African Butterfly fish, kissing guirami's, ciclids.... ect.

With fish tanks, you are trying to acheive one of two things

A. a tank full of contrast. (pink rocks, bright white light.

B. a Natural setting, with natural coloured gravel/pebbles, mixed in with a not so vibrant light, even a sun imatation type light tube.

Ornaments.... well my advice is to always stick with live plants, a bit of hornwort on the top on the tank for babies to hide in if born, certain fish like to nibble it, also an assrotment of large rocks to build with, and usualy some sort of log which sticks out. Always keep plants towards the back of the tank, and place rocks, peices of fake wood, ect, towards the front.

There is a whole lot more to know, but half the fun is learning first hand, go out and enjoy. !

i cant wait to start one man, my gf just sent one up and she got me motivated, hers is natural styled, natural colored rocks and live plants, but she forgot to clean her plants off before she put them in and she had snails in her tank, she had to clean them out lol. I want a more vibrant tank, more eye catching. So you suggest live plants?

I also like tetras a lot.

if you make large things for the fish to hide unde,r they'll always be under there and never come out.

You should also get a small little filter for your water...it'll shoot in air that will mix into the water for the fish and it will keep the water pretty clear.

I had a fishtank with natural looking rocks and plastic plants. We had a nice rock that had a hole in the center of it. It was pretty leet.

Tetras are great, long tailed leopard danio's, zebra danio's, all great hardy fish to start out with (since newer tanks do not have the bacteria). Hornwort will survive anything, while other plants can be fussy, Ask you local shop to reccomend a certain plants since the plants that stores sell varys from location to location. I myself have a 20 gallon tank ( i used to own a 35). With 2 angel fish, 1 pleco, 1 redtailshark, 5 cory catfish, and 1 zebra danio. My school of danio's died off over the last 2 years sadly... (my red tail shakrs is over 5 years old as well !).

AVOID WALMART FISH & PET SHOPS WITh BAD REPS. they have them for a reason biggrin: .

ohh, and do not BE suckered in by all the "chemical scam" bullshit, they will try and sell you everything under the fucking sun, when really all you need is a chlorine neutralizer (to start out with) and some sort of all in one product such as Wardley's Complete conditioner. Hell, I have not used a chlorine neutralizer in over a year and I am find. I lost many many fish when I was going with the whole "drop every chemical possible scam" into my tank years back... bad move. MY hope is to mount a 110 gallon tank into a wall when I buy a house someday. (saltwater)

My camera sucks/ can't take pics of my tank well at all.. so no pics of my tank sadly....

A few years ago, I found a 1953 zenith television in my parents basement and gutted it. I then put a 30g fishtank in and wired the lights/pump to a toggle switch underneath. I hooked the old flourescent light and control jewel lights up to the toggel as well, so it looks fscking awesome.

I actually did this all with my buddy steve, who knows the wiring shit much better than I, but its a cool tank nonetheless.
