when you make a shape to represent a shadow or highlight, change the opacity so that it looks natural. for example, if you turn the opacity of the shadows under your chin down, it will look much more realistic.
and redo the nose and lips. |

you also dont have to be so literal with color ... or in some cases you dont have to use any "tone" at all to express a shape ( ie the nose in the above ). |
yeah, you don't really need to draw an actual nose shape, it will probably look better if you just make the shadows and highlights of the nose and the surrounding area.
|
ok cool Ill make some adjustments
|
for a good reference use the posterise filter, then base your vector off of that.
|
yeah, that helps with shading sometimes, but it also makes it hard to maintain some of the details that were in the original image.

Here are the ones I read about in deviantArt and liked enough to save the links:
Vectoring in Photoshop - This site has a bunch of tutorials - http://www.vexels.net/ I liked this one - http://peachie.nu/vectortutorial/vector2.html ALSO, if you have Adobe Illustrator - Gradient Mesh in Illustrator - http://www.creativebush.com/gmeshtutorial/ Basic Illustrator tutorials - just lets you know what the feeatures are - http://www.sketchpad.net/illustrator.htm |
this should be stickied

Dont we have a tutorial sticky ??? To be honest, learning from a prof threw lecturing and 1 on 1 makes it waayyy easier.
