Fla. Teen Dies After Sword Falls on Him

BRANDON, Fla. — A teenager who kept a 29-inch sword displayed on his bedroom wall has died after the weapon fell and slashed his shoulder and neck, authorities said.

Joshua Hershberger, 15, was in his bedroom with two younger siblings Monday night when a ball they were bouncing knocked the sword off the wall, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

The high school sophomore was pronounced dead at a hospital in Brandon, a suburb of Tampa. Police said no charges were expected.

Reminds me of both Hostel and Dawn Of The Dead remake....Although relace a chainsaw with a sword, in both cases.

Why in gods name is a near 3foot Sword even in this kids room. . .much less HANGING UP collecting potential energy - just waiting to be jarred loose. . . annoy:

He shouldn't of had the sword placed in a way that a ball could knock it over.

Death by ignorance.

Plus his parents should of saw the stupidity in their son and did something about it earlier.

I'm going to start editing your posts into one big "PYROS COMMENTS" - with a link maintained to the original topic so that those who actually care to read your shit can do so, and those who want a Shawn-Free-Conversation can also indulge themselves.

Kinda hard to foresee a freak accident. In fact I have a sword haning on the wall above the window that my desk sits in front of. However, mine is in a scabbard so it might hurt like heck to have it dfall on me but I doubt it would kill. I never thought about it falling. I only have a couple of nails in the wall and the belt loop ring up by the handle, is on one nail and the pointed end is just resting on another. Now that I think about it, a ball would easily knock it off. But like I said - no sharp points are exposed. .... and wouldn't it fall straight down along the wall, and not far enough out to hit anything? Maybe if it hit the window frame it would ... but it still shouldn't stray too far. He must have been sitting leaning up against the wall. Strange accident.

(I wonder if another kid accidentally stabbed him and when the parents rushed in the kids made up the "ball knocked it off" story.)

Freal accidents do happen. i know of a girl who slipped in the bathroom and fell through the shower doors. She bled to death.

I used to have all sorts of karate paraphernalia on my bedroom wall when i was a teen. A few swords, butterfly knives, a shit load of throwing stars, a Sai, and a Bo. I did however, have them on the opposite wall where i slept.

that is such a freak accident. that is why i dont raise the Potential Energy of a sharp object.
