if you're desperate you can hire people to make professional resumes for you. dont know how much they charge. |
Depends on what kind of resume you want -
Do you want a Chronological resume that lists your job history - with a short summary of duties. Or do you want a bulleted resume that lists your skills and certificatioins, and lists your job history at the bottom. Writing it is easy - its how you want to present it thats the problem. |
Well, i just want a simple resume, explaining what position i want, and the qualifications I have for that position, plus my education.
|
The part where you explain what position you want usually goes with the cover letter, and a brief blurd in the "objective" portion of a resume:
Objective: To secure a position with [insert company name] as a [job title]. Heres an example of the bulleted, no job summary resume: http://www.quintcareers.com/resume_sample_5.html Clean and to the point. |
Cool thanks TGB. See the guy i know in L3 is a kid i use to go to school with, its his father. And he just happened to be a Sgt. Maj. In the Marines. So he told me at a job fair the other day "You have some things in your resume you dont need, and im going to tell you what you need to put in there, but you didnt hear this from me". I think hes just trying to get my foot in the door with an administrative clerk position with Logistics, than he wants to get me into his developmental and testing of new weapons and things like that.

We call it a Curriculum Vitae over here, this is what is listed in mine:
Curriculum Vitae Personal details: Name: Address: Telephone number: Mobile number: Education: date-date - College name, subjects, grades Employment history: Most recent job first date – date, Company name Job description Leisure activities: List things you do in your free time. Personal Statement 1-2 paragraphs trying to win over your potential employer. Tell them how well you work in a team, and on your own, communication, leadership skills, organisational skills etc. Explain how you learnt the skills, Discuss previous jobs, spare time activites etc. Referees: Referee 1: Name: Occupation: Address: Telephone: Referee 2: Name: Occupation: Address: Telephone: Hope this helps. |
Here's my general outline:
Header: Name (large) at top. Next line (small) contact info Profile: Short, 2-3 line overview of your skeelz Skills/Experience: Bulleted list of relevant skills. Relevant being the key word. If you're applying for a job at a bakery, there's no need to list "weapons handling and explosives" training Education: Go back as far as high school Work Experience: List the last 3-4 jobs you've had, but try not to go back too far, unless it's super-relevant to the job you're applying for. Keep it under 2 pages and don't bother listing hobbies or that "References are available upon request". Good luck. |
A resume really should only be 1 page. All relevant job experience can be fitted on one.
As zoner said - leave of "Ref. Avail" unless you actually have referrences to put down. |
Also, when you list your job experience, try to spin what your duties were at those jobs to suit what the prospective employer is looking for, without being transparently fake.
|
my resume is pretty beastly... gay blade is right you need to fit it all on one page, you can have an extended resume for interviews if needed
