What are the chances of Ehtanol replacing the current standard?

Oil remain the standard for quite a while beacuse there is a profit to be made from it. Why would oil companies want to switch when their making so much money?

High school kids made a car that got 50mpg and ran on soy. Shouldn't car manufacturers with their R&D guys be able to figure something like that out? Of course, but the technology is suppressed and will continue to be supressed for as long as possible.

Also when consumers want a change then ultimately car companies will meet the demand. But as long as people buy H3 (Hummer) Why should they change?

You're right though when it comes to consumers.

I also find that it becomes less of a big deal when were gradually introduced to it.

For example, I remember up until last year I had never seen it over $1/L for gas here. I remember filling up for 54 cents/L probably 4 years ago. Last year the price jumped over $1. I was shocked and everyone else was too. It wen back down to around 80's or so and this week jumped up past $1 again.

However, this time I don't see as much of a panic around. People will begin to accept it. Pretty soon gas will always be over $1 here. I have no doubts about that. People will kind of forget when it was less than $1 and higher prices will become normal. People will work it into their budgets and filling up your civic for $40 will replace filling it up for $20.

Until everyone stops driving in protest, the price will climb. Or at least thats the way I see it.

Some "smart" economy guy said that that will never work. Instead people have to just stop buying from the bigger companies so prices will drop. oOo: oOo:

These Ministers need to actually DO SOMETHING to make prices lower, rather than just TALK about them. eek:

Gas prices will have to stay very high for ethanol to replace it. (btw - I work for a company that produces ethanol - and I would like to thank the president of Iran for saying oil should be $100 per barrel - at that price we could afford to replace gas entirely).

The problem with ethanol is that you get about 30% less miles per gallon. This would be OK if it cost 30% less, but it doesn't. On the bright side, it's renewable, it burns cleaner, and gives a little more horsepower.

plus it puts our farmers back to work. We need to support Americas farmers
