Virus alert in xp!

virus alert is going off in the taskbar and im not sure how exactly to turn it off. I somehow got infected with a virus and and i've tried alot of different programs to remove them including norton and spybot to remove the spyware. They worked to an extent but im still getting the following message
:Your computer is infected! Critical system error. They may cayse critical system failure. please, use antimalware software to clean and protect system from parasite programs. Click here for to get all available software!

that software their reffering to isn't free btw!. cuss: . Are there any free programs that i can download to rid my system of whatever it is that's causing this message.

you might just want to buy some good antivirus and antispyware programs. For antispyware, try Microsoft Windows defender[/url:0fcd4] first, it's free. If that doesn't work, try webroot Spysweeper[/url:0fcd4], it's supposed to be one of the best and it works great for me. For antivirus, I recommend Kaspersky.[/url:0fcd4]

Honestly, I think shelling out some cash is worth securing your computer.

Hot tip: Use FireFox instead of IE. I havent installed an AV since the format, and Ive used FireFox instead of IE. Not a single virus, spyware or adware. rock:
