blackberries are cool. 50% of my posts are from when im taking a shit dance: I have the 8700c model. I get all my outlook email, contacts and calender appts on it and it gets great reception as a phone. Only thing i wish it had were a camera. The next model could have one and the next one will be able to run windows apps on it too. just dont drop it like i did oOo: its easy to scratch.

wtf dropping that mammoth of a thing wont break it? I thought they would be fragile.

Madmartagen 06-12-2006 10:22 PM

they are pretty strong. I was expecting this model to be a bit more delicate than its predecessors, but so far the only thing that ive noticed is that they are easier to scratch. if you keep the screen film that comes with it, you'll be fine. i dropped mine from 2 feet in the air while walking and it hit face down on the pavement without any operational issues. i see these things get broken all the time at work, but none of my partners have broken theirs yet. if you are careful with it like an ipod or anyone who cares about their stuff, you shouldnt have to worry about it.

HeadUp 06-12-2006 10:25 PM

werent they talking about banning them for some reason? im not sure what the controversy was, but i remember something, and im too lazy to read about a detox center

Madmartagen 06-12-2006 10:33 PM

there was a patent infringement case against RIM (makers of bberry) over some tech that allowed you to send and receive emails. The decision could have supposedly shut down the bberry fleet and would have halted service to them, but RIM settled (got corned) for around 300% more than what the litigators originally asked for. it was a nightmare at work cause everyone who had one was calling us about it. case is closed and bberry is still around. Still, the scare made the Treo and other brands more popular because people ran out and bought them as backups cause they were scared to be w/o their email.

Bleuachdu 06-12-2006 10:34 PM

There are pending patent infringment suits with RIM, the makers and service providers of blackberry. Obviously, if one of the challengers (there are a few) wins a court case, it could interrupt or stop the blackberry service. However, with the thousands (maybe millions?) of blackberry users, either RIM or the US govt will likely make sure that a settlement or arrangement is made that won't pose a threat to business continuity.
