ip addresses of websites

how do i find these out? (training purposes)

a simple whois lookup should do the trick.

If that doesnt work.. go into command prompt and ping the domain name. It'll tell you the ip address its pinging.

ok thanks. i thought you had to have the ip address before pinging

and this was locked why?

No you dont need the ip address to ping, you can use a domain name and it'll give a the ip address it'll ping though.

telnet wont really give you this sort of information. It is used to connect to or logon to remote machines/computers. For example at work we use it to connect to and configure our switches.
