It's a good idea, I imagine that'd be really hard to do, oh and that already exists..

And what about an online campaign, with battles resolved in multiplayer games ?

I can explain my idea :

We can use a webpage where all the moves, maps, territories conquered, etc, of the campaign are detailed. This will be updated 2 or 3 time a week (for example), and then, battles will be resolved in normal MP games.

That exists ?
WWII Online.
Is the "battle resolution" (action part of the game) as good as MOHAA ?

If we make something like this (the web page thing) what kind of map should we make ?

I think that, as we are playing always with squads, we should limit those kind of campaigns at smaller maps: playing the whole war with squads and small groups of men is possible but will take a long, very long time (too many battles)...
or with less battles, will become unrealistic.

Well the grand campaign for WW2Online is cool, but I think the actually battles would be better if it were like MoHaa.

It's a great idea, but I REALLY doubt it'd happen any time soon. It'd be really hard to do and hard to keep track of.

I'd probably play it if it did happen.

WWII:OL is supposed to be really laggy.

is it still so?

Untersturmfuhrer Draksen 02-23-2002 04:18 AM

All we need is this Web Page, administrated by a kind of judge. By mail, each team sends orders (moves, sectors to attack, amount of men in attack, ...) then the judge orders the REAL TIME BATTLES.
Teams play the battle, and the Judge/Web Page administrator changes the stats on the pages and waits for new orders.

Or something like this. no?

it would hard to do it..+ very expensive phone bill unless you use Roger Wilco to communicate.

[WTF]DrDuKeS 02-23-2002 04:34 AM

I must admit I've never playing WWII:OL, but I hear it's been improved by A LOT.

For the mohaa idea, how would you work out troop movements or battle times. I think by scheduling battle times you take away from the grand campain idea. What kind of map would we use? One of Europe or an imaginary one? There are a lot of factors that need to be worked out before you can even think to implement it.
I doubt EA would do it, but if someone was really dedicated then I'm sure they could pull something off.

Maybe if you had it set up like a league with ranks etc. A few people at the top giving battle orders and then having each platoon assigned to a certain area of an imaginary map.. kinda like a board game.

Hmm, you got me thinking http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

No, I don't think so. I don't think it will be expensive. Here is my idea :

Example for a standard "turn" of the game :
On monday, each team must send orders to the administrator. Orders by mail.
Example of orders :
Team 1 :
move unit01 from sector B to sector D.
move unit02 from sector E to sector F.
unit03 standby.
unit04 reinforcements (+2 men).

On tuesday, the adminitrator of the site updates the web page. Each team can see its orders on the internet (the map) and discover the moves/orders of its ennemy/ennemies.

On wednesday, the administrator sends a mail to each Team-Captain and indicates in it, all the battles that must be resolved.
A "battle schedule" is decided for the next day.

On thusday, it is "battle day". Each team plays its battles in real time MOHAA games.
Results are reported by mail to the administrator. Example :
Battle003 :
Team1/unit03 vs. Team2/unit01
Team1/unit03 destroyed !
Team2/unit01 victory (3 men KIA).

On Friday, the administrator updates the web page/maps according to new changes.

-----------------------------------------

Or something like that.

Moving/Attacking rules must, of course, be defined.
And if a player or a team can't play the battle, the battle is lost.
