Bend over and take it dry prices for new pc components
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/EVGA.html
£211 for a fucking motherboard, thats $400 oOo: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/8800_Series.html And for a watercoled nvidia 8800gtx you;re talking £605 or $1148 oOo: Price of pc components is getting way out of hand these days. stupid: So much for " as technology improves the components get smaller consume less power generate less heat and get cheaper", the 8800gtx has 2 power connectors on it ffs. annoy: |
thats another reason I'm not into gaming any more. It's too expensive!
|
The pricing is really getting out of hand and oddly enough it always seems to be nvidia upping the ante on prices as they generally have their cards out ahead of ati to a degree.
Used to be you could go and buy a graphics card and plonk it in, nowadays you've to have to make sure your psu is around 600 watts, is sli certified and has enough power connectors coming out of it to make the local nuclear power plant feel inadequate , and last but not least actually measure that you have enough space for the card to fit into your case. oOo: |
That card needs the 1.21 gigawatts of nuclear reaction to generate the electricity it needs.
But serioulsy, you're both right about the retarded prices of PC components. In a way though it's not so bad, as you can get a good card for around $120-150 that can hold its own against most moderns games today. It's only the games like Crysis that are making these companies shit their pants and making them create these super cards. But it's another reason why buying a $600 PS3 doesn't seem like such a bad deal. And I suppose that by buying such a highly-priced console, that you're only the problem, not the solution. And people WILL buy the PS3, and they will buy it until stores are out of stock 4-5 shipments into the launch. |
MONEY.

Ive given up on upgrading my pc. Next time I upgrade Ill just buy a dell or some shit and a new vid card
|
I won't upgrade for a long time now...
I spotted this on shacknews the other day though: Generally we havent been giving many big headlines to the ongoing generational improvements of videocards from NVidia and ATI but the 8800 from NVidia that was unveiled today is worth noting. Usually you look for a 15-30% jump in performance with cards but this thing is actually doubling up on a lot of benchmarks. Check out the reviews at HardOCP, Tech-Report "Fortunately, the green team did take that risk, and they managed to pull it off. I still can't believe the G80 is a collection of scalar stream processors, and I'm shocked that it performs so well. The real-world, delivered performance in today's OpenGL and DirectX 9-class games is roughly twice that of the Radeon X1950 XTX. Yes, it's taken 680 million transistors to get there, but this kind of performance gain from one generation to the next is remarkable, a testament to the effectiveness of the G80's implementation of unified shaders." No second videocard needed, and the thing is damn quiet too. Now just gotta wait for the prices to drop a bit. |
one day i will have a competitive gaming machine. annoy:
