It's all in the cards.

Any new video card is somewhat dependant on your CPU but you have nothing to worry about.

If you had a PII then your not going to see that much of a differance with a fast card.

Good Luck
when the Gforce4 comes out, You should be able to pick up a GF2 or 3 real cheap or even an ATI.

Kakorott,

How weird before I read your post I went to Circuit City and bought the Geforce2 MX 400!
HUGE improvement now! In the later forest scenes with the snow I was getting like 10 to 12 fps and below that when there was fighting coming. Now I average between 30 an 35fps and it doesn't dip below 22 fps during the fighting in that scenerio. So I very happy now.
Before the switch I was averaging early in the game between 25 and 30fps but now I'm at 75 and over fps!
Thanks for the input! I lucked out and got the card you suggested! It was $75. I know now I could have gotten it cheaper after reading what you said, but oh well.
I'm happy and didn't want to wait.

Thanks

Okay people, what's the REAL deal on the poor fps performance? And I'd like to hear from people who KNOW what's going on.
I've read absolutely everything in all related MOHAA forums about the framerates issue.
Great systems with mega power getting poor performance and mediocre to low end systems getting great performance.
Here's what I've got:
Dell Dimension 4300
384mb of ram
16mb ATI Rage Ultra Video Card
Windows XP
1.6gz Pentium 4 Processor

I get pretty decent performance on single player on MOHAA. I average about 20 to 35 fps. Of course when a hideous battle is about to happen it does drop considerably. With fps displayed you can tell when something big is about to happen.
The later missions in the forest with the snow are unplayable. It looks more like a slide show when fps drops to 8 fps.
I know my video card is low end but don't want to upgrade because I've read everywhere where it helps some people hugely and doesn't affect performance for others.
I have lowered all settings in the options area. Turned OFF shadows, turned everything to medium, etc., etc.
I've conducted many many experiments with the settings but doesn't seem to help much.
The raging debate centers on three things!
One group swears it's all CPU related.
The other group swears it's all Video Card related.
The final group swears it's poor coding in the game itself.
I'd love to hear from some experts about all of this. I'd buy a better video card in a second if I KNEW this would fix it. The problem is I've seen it help some and not help others.
This is truly bizarre.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Definitely the video card. (I know it's already been said, but I'm just agreeing)

I have a GeForce2 GTS 64 and have everything turned on and set to high and it works pretty well at 1280x1024. Although it's not top of the line, I can live with it.

If you don't want to spring out for a new vidcard you could always try setting your graphics even lower. Lowering the resolution usually helps.
