You may remember...
When gf1 went down I created a thread on 92b.
Basically it consisted of my granddad being diagnosed with cancer, he went to a hospice 2 weeks ago, which i've seen him almost every day since then. Just my update: Went to the hospice last night, finished work at 8, went straight there and left at around 10ish. Been going every day for the last week or so. My Aunt rang me at 9am this morning whilst at work saying that they got a phone call from the hospice at 10:30pm for them to go to the hospice, he passed away at 11:30pm. I was debating not going last night, whilst at work, i've been really worn out recently, but decided to go (incase he did pass last night and i'd have kicked myself if i hadnt have seen him last night). I'm glad I went, I was alone and found myself talking to him, it was weird because although he couldnt talk to me, he would respond occasionally by sqeezing my hand slightly, or by raising his eye brows or a little smirk. We've been expecting it to happen all week, we all said goodbye to him, and finally his suffering has stopped, and he's gone to a better place. Although he felt no pain (was on a lot of morphine), we tryed to make him as comfortable as possible. Members of the family was there pretty much from 6am to 11-12pm, so all day round he had our support. |
sorry to hear that man.
My aunt had uterine cancer in August. Since she was single and the rest of my family had work, I was there almost 24/7 with her. She died the same way; her blood pressure started to rise and then she squeezed our hands even though she was unconscious right before she died. Sucks losing someone like that when you know it's going to happen. |
Really sorry to hear that, man. My sincere condolences.

Sorry for your loss. Glad to hear you were able to see him before he passed away, it hurts me never having been able to say good bye to my granddad.

My dad went pretty much just like that several years ago. I visited every night like you, The last night i was there I stayed a long time because i had a feeling it was close, He died early the next morning. Like you said, hes gone to a better place.

You sound like a genuine bloke, posiedon - That's very good of you to spend so much time with your grandad like that, alot of people are scared off by death and wouldnt have made the effort. I bet he would have appreciated it to no-end. At least now he rests in peace.

You'd be suprised how empty the hospice was, my granddad was the only patient in there that had family constantly visiting him. I rarely saw the other patients families in the 2 or 3 weeks he was in there. Yeah I couldnt have lived with myself If I hadnt have made the effort. I'm not as bad now as I would have been if he'd have just gone without being able to say goodbye. I got alot of excellent advice from 92b and from my family. Advice that told me to go and see him as much as possible. He was a VERY nice bloke, he had alot of people who looked up to him, including his family and members of his community. He was a valued member of the church he visited, and worked at his business upto the days he went into hospital. If anyone deserved to go to heaven it was him! |
Sorry to hear that Poseidon.
