Zoner's Metal Review
So, I ventured out on a school night to see a little low key concert at the local civic center.
Down: Unbelieveably cool. Anselmo has great stage presence and rapport with the crowd, getting everyone off their asses early. Pepper Keenan is pure fucking hard rock...awesome. Rex reminds me of Steve Buscemi in Airheads for some reason...haw! Awesome opener from a band I really like, but no one knows of.
Megadeth: Probably the most flawless, best sounding set I've EVER seen. Mustaine was more jovial than I'm used to seeing him and SO on his game it was scary. The Drovers were outstanding, especially the guitar player. Their bass player needs a smaller guitar tho...he uses this big old Explorer-style bass that, again, makes him look like Buscemi in Airheads. I coulda listened to them all night. 'deth's set was: Sleepwalker, Wake Up Dead, Hangar 18, A Tout le Monde, Symphony of Destruction, Tornado of Souls, Washington is Next, Peace Sells, Holy Wars...might've missed one or two there. I hope they come back.
Heaven & Hell: Make no mistake, this is Black-fucking-Sabbath. A pure master class in heavy. It was hard to follow Megadeth, to be honest. The songs are so much slower and chuggy, that it had a more laid back feel. They were fuckin' awesome though. The whole set up was pro, pro, pro. The backdrops, the lighting, the sound...oh the sound! I didn't use earplugs all night. It was loud, but not painful. Pristine. We sat down for some of the show, but it was not a sign of boredom. Just had that "chill and soak it all in" vibe. Geezer's right hand amazes me.
If you get a chance to see this tour, GO SEE IT! rock:
