Guitar Question: Stripped Strap Buttons

So, I've encountered my first problem with the Thunderbird.

The top strap button's screw is very loose. It's almost to the point where I can pull the screw totally out. The hole has gotten too large for me to even tighten the screw much at all. I have read about fixes using matchsticks and glue, but that seems like a really shoddy way of patching up a $700 guitar. Apparently it works, though.

Any thoughts?

I think I'm gonna bring it in to the store I bought it from and knock some fucking heads. mwah:

You could always get like wood filler or something to fill the wood back up thats very solid. Then get a new screw (cause the one you have is probably stripped) and re-screw it in. No need to go to a guitar shop who would charge you just for doing that same exact thing (they will probably just paint it and finish it which you could easily do if you just go to home depot or lowes and buy the supplies).

The thing about doing it that way, even if it seems like a crappy way of doing it. Who cares? Your not going to see the glue or the wood filler because your screw is going to be covering it up. And it will hold if you get a new screw which isnt stripped.

Thats just what I would do but Ill ask my bassist tonight when I see him and see what he says.

How long have you had it? Can you not just go and get it replaced or repaired?

^ Yeah, that's the thing that chaps my ass. The guitar is 2 months old for fuck sakes!

I'm gonna see what the store says. If they'll fix it for free, I'll let 'em. Hell, they might replace it. I dunno.

On my shitty guitar i used duct tape. However, for your situation I would use would glue.

2 months old!? That sucks. I wouldn't buy from wherever you got that anymore.

hah, alright.

you could use wood glue to just keep the screw in. i did that when mine first fell out, and it worked for a few months. after that, i just said fuck it and taped it. i guess if you want to keep your bass in good condition, i would get a professional to do it. my guitar is almost 7 years old and it doesnt bother me.

Woot! Free o' charge!

If you could bring the guitar into us @ the Ottawa store, I will have my
guitar tech take a look at it. I'm pretty sure it is something that he can
very easily fix for you. As these guitars are covered under warranty, there
would be no charge to you.

Fuck yeah. rock:
