People refuse to act.......
Remember last year when i came upon an accident where a car was upside down with a baby inside and no one stopped?
Well, last night another incident of people not responding whatsoever. Was driving down a 2 lane hwy at night and noticed a car pulled over to the right shoulder. Nothing unusual about that but then i see a body lying in the road just behind the car. Well, THAT can't be good i say to myself as i pull over into the grass median. I back the truck up and hop out. There i see a lady sitting in the grass holding a cell phone crying hysterical. About 30 feet from her is some dude lying on the shoulder of the road. I walk over to him and see the fucker is still breathing. He's a wreck and i tell him not to move. At that point, a hwy patrol officer rolls up. The female cop gets out, walks over to me, looks at the guy, then asks me to check on the lady over in the grass. So, i walk over to her and ask if she's ok. She says yes but she's sorry she hit the guy and blah blah. I ask if anyone else is in the car with her and she says no. At that point, she's beyond herself and can't believe she just killed some pedestrian. Well, of course i lie to her at this point and tell her the guy is banged up but is fine. As a matter of fact, he's talking to the cop right now. I asked if she called the police. She said she didn't because she couldn't get her phone to work and that nobody stopped to offer help. Well, there you have it. There's no fucking way you could miss the guy lying on the side of the shoulder. A shit load of people slowed but kept going. Poor bastard lying on the side of the road and nobody stops to call the cops. The cop that did stop just happened to drive across the scene. After another unit arrived, i got out of there. Heard he was airlifted to a hospital but don't know if he made it or not. Nothing in the news today about it. |
that fucking sucks...hopefully dude is ok...

wow. You wouldn't find that shit in NH. I don't want to sound like a prick or anything but if you ever pull over to the side of the road and get out and stand there, within seconds people will be stopping and asking if you need help. I know I do it for people and Ive had many people do it for me even if I just pull over to make a phone call or something.
If I saw a body lying on the side of the road, my first reaction would be to stop and see what the fuck is going on. sometimes I just can't believe people wouldn't bother to take time out of their lives to save another life. I hope the guy is ok. |
I think people are generally scared. They don't want to get involved because they don't want to have anything to do with anything bad, or don't want to be responsible for taking care of someone if they should die. It's a lot easier for people to keep driving, than to stop and help someone, and if they should die, they would have to think about that for the rest of their life.
It's unfortunate, but I think people just don't want their own bubble to burst. Good thing there are people like Arkan out there though. Without people like you, this world would be a total mess. But there is always someone out there who is willing to give the time to help others in need, and tonight that was you Arkan so you should be proud. |
I really didn't do anything special other than to offer to get help. There wasn't a thing i could do for the guy other than tell him not to move. As far as the lady, yeah i lied to her about the guy "talking to the cop" but i had to get her to calm the fuck down.
I just can't believe people can just go about their business when it's obvious someones in dire need of help. I don't always stop if i know i'm not going to be any help. Saw a wreck once and it was a bad one. That one i didn't get out of the car to offer help because there was a flood of people running to the scene. At that point, i would only be in the way so i left. But last year and last night was different. Not a soul offering help. I would've felt like shit had i just drove by. |
Good job, Arkan - Its good to know there are people willingf to stop and help a stranger out there, I bet in bigger cities that avoiding-potential-danger behaviour is more likely to happen.

Lady wiped out in front of me this winter, I pulled over, gave her my cell, ect.

Arkan 2
Coleman 1 I need to catch up by patrolling our highways to see if anyone needs help. Good job again man. I seriously dont understand why people don't get out to help. I felt it was almost instinctive in a way. |
Calling the police while still driving by doesn't constitute as helping?
Not that Chicago is a bad place, but a scene like (I don't know what you saw Arkan, but I can only imagine) that at night would seem sketchy to me if I was alone, unless it was during the day. But cops/sheriffs patrol the highway in Chicago a lot doing their job, so they catch these things really fast. But it's annoying because everyone in Chicago has to come to a complete stop (0 mph) on the highway to take a glance. Anyone from or has been to Chicago driving past a car accident or someone getting a ticket on the highway knows what I'm talking about. |
