People are always complaing about clans and why or why not people should join them. For the most part there isnt much reason to join a clan- whoever joins your ally/axis team is good enough. i think had they given MOHAA multiplayer a ranking system that rates and ranks you, giving you a title and or medals, according to your performance there would be more ppl looking to join clans that could help them improve their rank. a game called myth did this a few years back and it was damn addictive. a ranking system made people want to play more and better. when you didnt play for a couple of days your rank wuold go down as people passed you. everybody couldnt be an emperor or king. if you played badly your rank would go down. they even had 10 special ranks for the top ten people online. there were also rooms where you could play unranked games. of course Myth's multiplayer which was created by bungie(the makers of halo) was also operated and maintained by bungie so this rank system wouldnt be possible with gamespy. however online gaming and ranking was free with the purchase of the game so there was never any problems in playing online whereas now you usually have to pay monthly fees just to play with other people. a ranking system would insure a constant interest from the gamers for playing online and would also make joining a clan a more reasonable and influential decision. playing with your friends is what makes multiplayer fun, and while you dont need to join a clan to play with your friends, it can be fun if you know you have to work as a team to win a reward as a ranking system would ensure you would. besides its all about getting your name out there. listening to people brag gets annoying- it would be so much easier if their rank and title did the bragging for them.
im still a one man army... booooooyah |
It's always interesting to have awards for what you do in a MP game : it prevents it from becoming boring... IMO, of course.
We have created and started with 2 other friends a clan,... or call it a squad if you want. We use there a ranking system: We award ranks according to the amount of MP games you play with us. We award medals according to the amount of kills you have. Our web site is for the moment a prototype beta version .... lol. In a word : under construction. But we will finalize it in 1 or 2 weeks maxi, with more time. We use there ranks and medals of the finnish army (WWII). ------------------ --------------- [ThSkr] Draksen ThrillSeekers Clan http://www.geocities.com/thskr_clan |
I played a war game on 2am.com that had rank and awards, it did make the game more interesting. Good Idea, would love to see it happen.

Personally from experience, by creating an online ranking system. Your just asking for cheaters. People will develop ways for other people to cheat.
This has happened to DeltaForce. And unless the publisher will offer patches on a regular basis and keep patching the game for a long time to come. I purchased DFLW just for the "stats" but have not played once. As there are too many cheaters in stats. I only play public where the admin is on constant watch for cheaters. I wish we could have a ranking system without cheats but I highly drought it. |
Just find a way to test life% and weapons of players in MP games.
If not logical or standard : out. ------------------ [ThSkr] Draksen ThrillSeekers Clan http://www.geocities.com/thskr_clan |
true ive seen cheating become a problem in other ranking games. ive never played a fps with a multiplayer ranking system. i guess mohaa needs more squad based action. i heard about MOH: team assault i dont know if it was a hoax or something but maybe it incorporates a squad based element with a ranking system.?
who knows |
Only one problem... How do you rank someone in a game that requires team-play for 75% of it's game modes?
You couldn't do it based on frags alone, that would just mean Deathmatch players would get the highest ranks. It's a nice idea but not really implimentable for MoH. Just to make one point, though. You said clans are pointless... I beg to differ. You said the next player on a public server is as good as a clan mate. I get on my knees and deplore to differ on that one. At this moment in time clans won't make much difference as you won't have many competitive matches yet. Clan-base has already got MoH ladders up, I think. It won't be long before there will be leagues, cups and continental (and hopefully international) competitions all over. I look forward to this more than any ranking system that would be entirely objective, rather than subjective. At any rate, using an example to emphasise my point... the CLQ is a long-standing ranking system for most online shooters. It basically gives scores per week based on kills per minute (using the player's best 90 minutes as it's focal point). It's so exploitable, though. You don't have to cheat, either. For instance, on Half-Life I used to play and wished for a higher rank. I managed to get 7th in the world official one week simply by playing only on one particular map, using one particular tactic that ensured masses of kills in the shortest amount of time (For those who play HL, that was Snark-Pit and the Tau-Cannon in the pit... remember those days?). Now at this time I knew very well I wasn't the 7th best player in the world. I had a crappy AMD K6-2 350Mhz and only an ISDN 64k line. I just put in loads and loads on minutes to increase my best 90 minute score. That was for a game that is only deathmatch, too. MoH isn't about deathmatch, so you'd have to score by how players work as a team, how they stay alive, how they complete objectives, and far too many more permutations to list here. I doubt a fair ranking system would be codable. The best system is to pit players and teams against other players and teams and see who wins the most over a period of time. That's why, essentially, I disagree with your post http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif |
In the case of "clans competitions", how many players is the minimum for a clan ?
We are 3 in our clan, may be 4 tomorrow... is it enough? ------------------ [ThSkr] Draksen ThrillSeekers Clan http://www.geocities.com/thskr_clan |
actually i didnt mean to say clans were useless its just that i had already stated alot more in another post and i didnt want to retype it even though i was starting a new topic but who the hell cares. hey man 1 man is good enough for a clan dude im a one man army myself
