Converting Mini DV to DVD
 

How can I get footage from a Mini DV on to a good quality DVD?

I've tried doing it myself on my PC w/ Nero and then some program that came with the camera but the picture quality is terrible and I'm not sure why.

Any of you people convert Mini DVs to DVDs via PC, if so how?

Is the camera connecting via firewire? If so premiere elements can capture it, not really sure why its so low res with nero.

I know windows movie maker can also capture a video stream (usb or firewire afaik), you can set it to a high bitrate capture setting and it should look ok.

Nah, it's a USB. Maybe I'll try Windows Movie Maker next time.

What format do I want the video to be in to put it on a DVD? .avi?

for DVD mpeg2. If you use a decent authoring program, it will do it all for you.

Final Cut Pro + DVD Studio Pro.

USB transfer will always lag behind Firewire. You just get better quality video through Firewire.

its because you are using usb. I have a mini dv cam and my 1st try i converted with usb and it was total shit.

I bought a firewire cable and now it looks great.

I use ulead videostudio or someshit that came with my camcorder.

Ahh I see, I'll have to invest in a FireWire...

Then I'll try again with Nero, then maybe Adobe Premire Elements if it does not work.

Final Cut Pro and Premire Pro are not really going to meet my budget eek:

EDIT - It's a Sony DCR-TRV27 videocamera.

Figured I'd update if anyone cared...

Bought a firewire and finally got around to trying it out...Used Windows Movie Maker to pull the 60min video off my tape and convert into "Digital device format (DV-AVI)" - This was the highest quality option...took up 12gb of space on my hard drive...

Then I used InterVideo WinDVD Creator to burn to DVD and it came out much better than the last time but still not what I was expecting...

I'll try burning with Nero next.
