I am a bass guitar monster

Last night while jamming with the band, I broke my A string while playing, of all songs, "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash. oOo:

I'm an old hand at snapping guitar strings, but I've never broken a bass string before. I have no idea what brands are good and what are shite.

Any of you band types have any opinions? I'll go to the music store and ask, but I figured I'd ask here first.

ernie ball strings are usually good.

My first thought was Dean Markley Blue Steels. I've used their acoustic strings before and always liked 'em.

DR black beauties or GHS bassboomers

BlackJackal 07-11-2007 11:47 AM

i use D'Addarios. they've served me well

you've never replaced strings before? jeez.

well im not completely sure on bass, but if DR or Elixir makes strings for bass, definitely get them. DR's are handmade and last a while. i've just started using elixirs and they feel soooooo good.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check 'em out for price n' shit.

Anyone ever use Dean Markley SR2000 strings? I've read good reviews.

Cinco strings are amazing, and they're tough as hell. Check them out.

Ernie Ball Slinks, they're the only way to go. Bass strings are like 30 bucks though.

i hate ernie balls. at first i used them, but after using handmade strings like DRs, i never went back.

Go with elixers.

UPDATE (because you're all dying to know): Went with Dean Markley Blue Steels, 45-100s.

Slapped 'em on last night and they sound beautiful! VERY bright and easy on the fingers.
