need a video converter for my gigabeat
 

i have a toshiba gigabeat model t400. It uses windows media player 10/11 to sync files with it. I can't seem to convert my avi files to whatever format it uses. It always comes back saying error when converting it. I can however put mpeg files on it. If i should convert my avi files to mpeg first then does anyone know of any good programs for that?
