What you don't want to read about when waiting to get on an airplane

So, I'm sitting at the FOX Sports bar at the Arizona International airport and I come across this news item on CNN

Passengers watch as engine falls off plane.
Link

I've had a good friend loose an engine on takeoff, or shall I say go up in a ball of flames, smoke and parts all over the runway. It's a little nerving when they continue the takeoff .

Then I've also landed when there was a problem with the nose gear, deverted a landing just last week, where there was still an airplane on the runway in Orlando but never lost anything in flight LOL.

Here's hoping I make it home safe :D

Good luck!

I mean it only happens on roughly about 1 in 10 flights......so don't worry!

Your carry-on bag doesn't happen to contain a parachute, does it?

/engine falls off
/rude stands up
/rude hooks up
"EQUIPMENT CHECK! ONE OK!"

I always wondered why they never sold parachutes at gift shops in airports. That could be a very good business, however I don't think Airport management would let that one fly, no pun intended.

Thanks Miyagi, this is my 10th flight in the past 5 weeks - Now I really feel good about this one.

Wouldn't be a good idea. Terrorists could hijack the plane, put it in autopilot to destroy whatever, and then bail out. The only witnesses would be dead, and the same guys would be able to make a run in the future.

i likethose odds.

plane engines are actually designed to fall off. They have a couple of pins designed to fail if vibration gets too bad, which could threaten the whole wing/airplane. they are designed to be able to fly with 1/3 engines depending on the airplane model.

airline safety is much better now than it was during regulation though

But then they wouldnt get there virgins. I think we all know they'd just take the virgins.

Rude, if they crash the plane with you on it, i'll take it upon myself to punch the pilot out!!

Once when i was flying in a storm, as we were approaching, the plane was teetering.....I said to myself "If this guy wrecks it, i'm gonna kick his ass"....lol

Well I made it home very safe but sick as a dog, no pun intended LOL. I need to install COD4 today after I finish up some reports from my trip.
