So my college internet sucks nuts.
Over the winter break the IT department turned into a socialist government. Everyones ethernet is capped at 15kb. Pr0n watching has become impossible, and I can't play a game of cod:4 to save my life. What I have noticed is that the wireless network on campus isn't capped, and I am able to watch pr0n on my laptop. (Not that I do.... but sometimes that corner of the library where no one is looking looks inviting.)
Anyone know some way I could build an antenna or modify my current one to pick up the wireless signal from campus in my dorm room? I live on the 5th floor of a high rise style pillbox so even cellphone reception is shitty. |
you're fucked. My school does the same shit with capping our access. If we want fast internet we have to charter it ourselves. I was going to do that this semester until my wireless card shit the bed.
|
depends the radius of the wireless network.
|
loading sites and downloading things is fast here, but flash players such as youtube, collegehumor, etc are slow as shit. takes 10 minutes to load a 30 second video.

I used to have problems playing games while I was on campus. I couldn't get a ping less than 900 in any server. I could do other stuff fine though.
Man, I'm glad I'm off campus now. |
yeah i was going to say, get a place off campus. problem solved.

I we just have cable & internet through COMCAST. We have a bunch of premium channels, DVR, and split everything up wirelessly through a router. $9 a month per person is not bad at all.
