Obviously full of spoilers but heres a video link:
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/03/05/...native-ending/ Must say I prefer this ending to the one shown in cinemas |
My school is showing I am legend tonight. Think I'm gonna go see it on the big screen.

good movie i thought... not so sure about that ending but hey, was searching around on that site a bit more and found something about a possible sequel. hopefully they wont ruin it if they do decide to produce a sequel...

I liked that ending OK, but it doesn't make much sense with some earlier scenes in the movie.
*Spoiler Alerts!!!!* Remember when Will Smith is marking down a new journal entry, and he talks about how the zombies have lost ALL semblance of human behavior? That would mean that main zombie would have never stopped at getting to Smith, and wouldn't have recognized his (prior) wife/girlfriend. Unless he was somehow the last remaining member of his species that still had some human characteristics left. I guess it's pointless to debate any plot holes in a sci-fi film, because you aren't supposed to ask questions. Regardless, a vaccine still wouldn't completely restore the infected back to their original human form. As in 28 Weeks Later, even those who carry a resistance to the virus still aren't completely human. |
that ending would of been more sequel friendly (obviously), but I still feel the movie is a retread of 28 whatevers Later

Let's also not forget the traps the big zombie set for Smith throughout the rest of the film, the mannequin being the big one. Using a familiar face to lure smith away from safety and into a dangerous situation. This shows intelligence and well as the ability to predict someone else's thoughts. There is also the fact that the big zombie sends wave after wave of lesser zombies to attack smiths house. They listen to his commands and he even directs some of them to strategic weak points on the house. These aren't really zombies so much as a mutants with only slightly less brain power or even the same amount but a more aggressive mentality with mutations in physical nature. |
why didnt they opt to put that in the theatrical release its better but still kinda gay.

Good points, but animals are also capable of protecting others withing their group (younglings, babies, etc). Just because it tried to save one of it's own doesn't mean it necessarily did so out of compassion.
Same thing goes for the "traps" set. There are many species of animals that can do amazingly intelligent things, but they're still not humans. We're led to believe that these things have progressively lost their human characteristics through time. |
They are more human than you think.
Yes animals can protect their own kind just like people. But find me an example of an animal launching an assault with a small army on a fortified house in order to find one of their own kind. Then also explain how it was able to draw the butterfly on the window and the loving caress she gave the boss zombie. The trap was moving a mannequin across the city of New York to another position that smith frequents a lot. This means they followed him and observed where he goes. They then found the mannequin he speaks to in the video store and brought it to that location. They set up the rope attached to a heavy object in order to capture him. This shows they are able to plan and then execute complex thoughts and ideas. |
well put. the alternate ending certainly makes a lot more sense when you put everything together - the compassion, the intelligence, the hierarchy. The first just goes the with preconception that they are 'zombies,' which holds true until they set a trap up.
