Has anyone played HL2ep2/TF2/Portal on a saggy scrotum PC?

My PC is knocking on a bit now so I don't play any new games on it, but my frugal Scottish self saw that Valve have chopped 20% off The Orange Box in what they describe as a "STUNNING WEEKEND EVANDERREALDEALHOLYFIELD!". The minimum specs for HL2ep2/TF2/Portal have increased slightly in comparison to HL2/HL2ep1, so I was wondering if anyone here has played HL2ep2/TF2/Portal on an old shitanus rig......? How did it run? (Spectacles: XP2500+, 9800pro, 1GDUDE RAM, playing @ 1280x768 res)

should be ok at the lower settings, source engine is pretty scalable

elstatec 03-15-2008 02:43 PM

Evander Holyfield and The Rock were on Soccer AM two weeks ago, was very awkward with the Aston Villa crowd.

i would just not expect it to run very nice at 1280, 1084 though yes as valve always are good with getting the spectrum of systems to play its games

I played ep2 on my PC. It ran just OK, but I kept bumping into stuff because crap didn't show up until I was right on top of it.
Specs: CPU AMD XP2000 (1.67ghz), Gforce4 mx440 64mb, 512mb RAM.

I think I'll chance it. My confidence has been renewed slightly by reinstalling XP. The difference in playing HL2/Ep1 on XP and playing it on Vista is like night and fucking day! (Probably due to no audio hardware acceleration in Vista?)

elstatec 03-15-2008 07:49 PM

probably because no hard-on in vista

More to do with the ram and cpu usage, i find 1 gig of ram in vista to be like 512mb in xp, its the bare essential. Ive got my cousins pc here (vista 64) and it has 2 gig of ram and i find some games get a bit choppy when the drive has to be accessed for saving or whatever. Gears can chop somewhat as can crysis, Tf2 and source games all run fine though.

Dunno really about single core cpu use in vista, theres much more going on in the background so more load on the cpu when running a game. People have complained about the ram usage but really its the same for every new os, windows 95 was easily usable with 32 mb of ram or less, 98 increased it some and then xp pushed the bar further up 256-512mb minimum. Ram has got good pricing these days though, few years back a gig would have cost you a bomb, these days 2 gig of ddr2 can be had for about £40.

I like using Vista for day-to-day stuff, so I might dual boot with XP (or triple with Fedora and XP) and jump in for the odd game here and there. Did you get your superfetch problem sorted?

Yeah was the overclock causing it, the quads at 3.6ghz but not enough voltage going to it then, raised it some and no more crashing of superfetch or explorer. Still got watercooling to install in the case and really can't be fucked to do it =/.

did you get it my son?!

how did it run and what do you think of it. The orange box was the best gaming deal ever like, portal was a blast, ep 2 was immense and tf2, well I play that every day almost

What's inside the orange box? The best game of all time. Brain-melting offbeat genius. The deepest multiplayer game of the year.

I did. Ep2 looks/plays as good as HL2/Ep1 on my system so I'm a happy bunny. I haven't played it much though; I'm at the part where you use the dildo on Alex. I zipped through Portal (too short, too easy), and I've yet to play TF2.

quality, episode 2 is great, gets better as it goes. Did you fall into the fire on Portal? (please say you didn't.......)

TF2 is incredible fun and hilarious too, best MP game in years. You're in for a treat.

I play every other night on it, my steam name is god save the team. we should all post our orange box/steam ID's on here

TF2 = most fun multiplayer game of last year bar none. And with valves support being probably the best of all the pc developers it should be a very popular game for years to come.

Yep, I still laugh at all the voices in the game, perfectly done and executed. TFC lasted like a decade, so should this, its so balanced, well presented and fun.

whats your steam id gervo and buttocks and anyone else on ere
