Mojave Experiment aka Vista-Doesn't-Suck
http://www.mojaveexperiment.com/
Open it up in IE if you have any trouble in FF. Basically in short, these people took windows Vista and showed it to a control group but gave it the name Mojave saying it was their newest form of windows. The people loved it and thought it was great....but didn't know it was actually just normal vista. It goes to show you how Apple's brilliant "PC Guy VS Apple kid" advertisements really affected people. Everyone just seems to buy into the "omg vista sucks" bull without any solid reasoning behind it. And I couldn't care less about Microsoft, i'm not going to defend them in any fashion. But I use vista, and i find no problem whatsoever. Maybe a negative thing to say about Vista is that its no better than XP. I run XP on my two computers here and vista at home and i dont notice a difference. A new OS "should" feel better than the old one, but its not worse than XP in any way.I'm not defending Microsoft really |
Vista really had 1 problem when it came out, third parties being slow to release drivers, and really thats nothing to do with MS, not as if these companies that had release candidates and betas didnt know that vista was coming.
As is usually the case higher spec for the os = people whining, even though its always been the case that a new os would run better with better hardware. Not sure if that mac vs pc shit had much to do with it, anyone taking those ads seriously has probably already shot his wad on an overpriced mac and telling everyone that its somehow "changed his life" and most likely his bank balance to a large degree. |
I'm not sure how it is over in Europe, but it seems like MANY young kids are now turning to Macs for their computers when they go off to college/university. It seems like every other student has a Mac. I'm not saying it's bad, but it seems like it's becoming the new AOL where people get it cause they don't know any better.

Know a bundle of students who have macs just cause they thought it was cool..gg

BEING IN THE MEDIA Industry ill lay it down for ya... PLAIN and simple.
Macs for years were the standard PERIOD. -They had the software, -They had the reliability -They had speed, power, and OS refinement needed to be the favourite. -MOST of all, when it came to ANY grapohics suite, MACS were the way to go. BUT this all changed a couple years ago... The day Apple decided to give up its proprietary superiority and go the way of Intel. (Not to mention they were going to fall behind anyways since the G family was not keeping up with the Intel's and AMD chips. -SO The once mighty superiority of the apple platform had vanished, and now technically speaking, Speed wise, benchmarks have shown the PC's match MAC's..... -The software giants are no longer going exclusively MAC, Adobe has come to match Final cut pro with Premier, and overtake Apple in the post production department with after effects. Quark once the only standard (Page Maker being a joke)... Is now being threatened by Indesign. -OS refinement really became an almost null issue with the launch of Win2k. PC's showed they were just as stable at that point (if not more stable), and launch after launch, Microsoft is keeping pace with its own GUI..... Keeping it plushy, and quirky for the bustling masses. SO where does the problem lie ? -Image.. IT is ALL about image. Mac's have it, PC's do not. and by nature, idiots are attracted to bright shiny things...... (Do not get me wrong though, I have a Dual G5 work horse machine AND I LOVE IT, but the day I spend 5k for a fully loaded Intel Mac..... YA RIGHT . |
Vistas pop-up are annoying (but can be disabled), and Microsoft should have left the control panel the same as XP. Does anyone else get lost in control panel?
As for Mac's, they are too expensive, if they where the same price as regular PC's then I would probably own one. But until that day comes I guess I will have to stick with PC's |
I LOVE the search feature in the start menu and use it almost every log on session I have. The control panel hasn't gotten me flustered at all yet, but it is a bit odd, yes. Change makes people feel uncomfortable.
BUT the thing I CAN'T STAND is OFFICE 2008 stuff. Excel and WORD are a PAIN IN THE ASS to use now cause they tried to go more "streamline" for the top and make it more picture-esque. Fuck that. I can't find anything I need anymore. Just trying to find the Header & Footer option is a quest in itself. Terrible decision MS. |
I had a chance to screw around with Vista once since my shit is still running XP and it wasn't bad. Took me awhile to learn how to navigate through the OS.
My rig is in dire need of an upgrade (prolly completely new at this point) and i'll have to shell out the $$$ for the newer OS. |
i just stare into space when i look at the Mac desktop... i have no idea how to use it

ROFL. anyway theres no problem with vista. think the biggest problem is that they have left xp too open and still supported to the max which stops people from upgrading because the price and because vista will use more resources up. and i just like the plain features xp has over vista anyway |
I was the biggest mac basher of all time until Apple released an intel based machine.
So today I have MBP 15" 24"iMac 3.06 13"Macbook - just picked this up for my oldest daughter QX6850 main PC box for gaming - running xp 3 1U dual core PCs for network stuff around the house x6800 running vista (daughters second box) 1 XP laptop (work) 1 XP laptop (wife) P4 EE 3.04 vista (youngest daughter) 1 XP 15.4" laptop XP (located in the garage for quick googling when working on the car or truck) All in all if it was not for gaming, I would be 100% mac only. Reason being it's both well written and has linux under the hood. Now if you asked me to compare xp vs vista, I hate vista wth a passion. I have more issues with the vista boxes in the house (all updated to the latest sp) all running on very fast hardware including graphics cards. TBH I'm trying to move all the kids and wife to mac. Makes my job of home IT manager much much easier. Still need my PC based hardware to play games :D |
but short hand does have a point: Mac stuff is just unrightfully expensive for what you get. I would have no problem paying for a mac if it was around the same price tag as a comparable spec PC machine.
