Capt. John H Miller 02-28-2002 09:01 AM

Is it wise to upgrade from windows 98SE to XP home? Will MOHAA run properly?

my system:
1,1Ghz Celeron
448SDRAM
Geforce2 GTS/PRO 64mb DDR

I have XP Pro and MOH works great, my son has 98se and it works great in it as well, so go for it. XP is much more stable than 98 is and you'll like the enhanced graphics.

Capt. John H Miller 02-28-2002 09:17 AM

XP PRO is too expensive, i would have 2 buy HOME edition, but is that any good?

[Roach][Knuts] 02-28-2002 09:40 AM

Pro is supposed to be alot better than Home (i have pro and not home so i can't fully say).. so it might be wise to save until Pro isn't too expensive hehe

I have both Home and Pro edition (on two different PC), honestly I didn't noticed any appreciable difference between the two.
All the programs and games I tried works great.
XP is a great improvement from Win98SE.
Just be sure to have the XP version of all the drivers you need.

Cheers

Capt. John H Miller 02-28-2002 09:44 AM

you mean videocard drivers and stuff? Do i have to download them prior the install of XP?

02-28-2002 09:57 AM

if you go to Microsoft's site you can do a combatibility test (make sure all your external devices, printer scanner, etc are turned on when you do the test) prior to deploying XP to see what is compabatible and what isn't. XP home and Pro both have many "built in" drivers for most newer hardware so that really isn't a problem. You can always go to your manufaturer's site after installing XP for the latest drivers. The one problem with downloading all the drivers prior to installing XP is that unless you have a burner or zip/jazz drive you won't be able to save some of the files as they are too big to put on a floppy. You could use winzip and "span" the larger files onto floppies but that is real cumbersome and time consuming. Here I go again going way off topic, oh well lol. If you need some help is this or anything related feel free to drop me and email and I will try to help you. cachat@adelphia.net

You said i'd have to make backups, why? Do i lose files?

02-28-2002 11:39 AM

no, I meant you'd have to get the XP drivers for your hardware which some of the drivers and accomanying files are rather lqarge in size, you won't lose anything in an upgrade. Sorry for the confusion.
