I may be wrong about this but if you were to watch a sniper from a distance away shooting at a soldier who is standing right next to you, isnt it true that you would see the muzzle flash before you hear the sound while your fellow soldier falls to his death? Also, if this is in fact reality, will this detail be included in the game?

what travels faster ...light or sound?
light , i think , right ? that would be a nice touch [This message has been edited by Polaris (edited June 14, 2001).] |
ya or like to see te german die before the gun shot is heard.

Three man are walking in the dark, A is deaf, B is blind, C is blind and deaf.
A person fires a bullet at the three. A saw the muzzle flash, B heard the shot, C got shot. Who knew about the shooting first? According to Physics, it's A, B then C. Given that it's not a semi-automatic http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif Light > Sound > Bullet speed Now if he's hit by a cruise missile... |
Maybe that should be added in the game! http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
|
The question then becomes, do they happen with enough time between them that it seems wrong for them to all happen near-instantaneously?
|
LOL! thats a pretty awesome story Badscript. yeah i guess that is true according to physics. Im all confused now...j/k..
So on that same note, would someone see the muzzle flash before they were killed instantaneously? I bet they would. what do you guys think? Oh yeah and Badscript, wouldnt it go muzzle flash > Bullet speed >sound because i thought bullets easily broke the sound barrier? [This message has been edited by BlueDevil (edited June 14, 2001).] |
In Saving Private Ryan, when Private Jackson takes out that German Sniper, all the Nazi saw was the flash from Jacksons rifle. Also Jackson said when Caparzo got shot "bullet hit the ground before we heard the shot" I think, hehe. This only happens over long distances obviously. In the gamespot movie of snipertown, if you turn up your sound really loud, you can the bullet hit the guy, thats walking near you, it sounds really cool, but you dont hear the sniper rifle, maybe because of other noises, who knows. But in all reality, if your good at being a sniper, you would'nt let anyone see your muzzle flash, or give your position away, would you ? http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif

Coriolis: Yeah it's all in theory, in real life I think they'd rush that guy to the nearest hostipal http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif
BD: A modern day scoped rifle like the M82A1A .50 Caliber SA Scoped Rifle has a muzzle velocity of 2800 ft or 854 meter /s. http://www.marinescoutsniper.com/50cal.html Sound is ~ 750 miles / hour. That's why I mentioned the cruise missile http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif |
Hey I'm still alive damn it!!!!
And Jackson said "He was on the ground 'fore we heard the shot". GET IT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I'm a SPR fanatic ------------------ Caparzo |
Light, then sound...
BUT : A guy that gets shot (C) little time after (A) sees' the muzzle flash and then (B) hears' the sound is also VALID because in HUMAN VALUES we're talking about microseconds....(a tremendously low value) so in reality, it works out like this : C gets the shit shot out of himself... A sees the muzzle flash a bit after C gets shot. B hears the shot a bit after C gets hit and A sees the muzzle flash. Don't confuse nerve conductivity time with perceptive consciousness... C got shot WAY before (consciously) A saw the shot and B heard it... |
Nota Bene :
a joke - how do you know a blind man visited a nudist colony ?? it's not hard.... |

Hehe, I think they were always developed as a light anti armor weapon. Using one of those buggers on a human would be devastating. |
