yeah, i thought maybe it was just me and couldnt see the shell or anything coming into the boat, but, oh well i can sure live with what i saw, for sure!

The only thing I would like to see is more of is my teammates getting wounded. I would love to have a reason to have to hunt down more nazi scum.

Well i have to say that was excellent except for the sound for some reason it was a bit jumpy for me. There are however one or two things to point out.
THe M1 garand in a scene gets reloaded after 4 shots are fired in real life you couldn't reload untill the bandolier clip had popped out after 8 shots. However after playing day of defeat i can see that this may have been done for gameplay reasons. In dod there have been numerous times where i have about 2 rounds left in the garand and run into 3 or more germans round the corner. So if that garand thing stayed it would actually benefit gameplay. The M1 garand bandolier looks a bit odd. From what i can see in the video it looks more like a square block. When the shell hits the water and the guys in your boat duck they all do it sort of simaltaniously which looks kinda cheesy. The guy in your boat in the first vid who had a scared look on his face now looks like a right mean git. (no bad thing) http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif If this is supposed to be a squad of men in your boat why do they all appear to have M1 garands. Surely there should be some thompsons and a B.A.R. Last point in D-day in real life as in saving private ryan the soldiers rifles weren't exposed like that they were in a type of plastic sleeve. Would be nice if you could do some thing like that press a button and he rips the sleeve open. (although that may be going to the extremes) Hope i havn't offended anyone at 2015 with these criticisms. http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by Gerard (edited July 19, 2001).] |
nope, no offense, good points :).
The clip for the M1 is modeled after the real deal (we have a couple of actual M1 clips, one empty, and a guy here brought in an M1 with a loaded clip). As for reloading half-way through, we originally had it so you couldn't eject the clip before it was empty, but that was really pissing everybody off here :). So we enabled the reload for that weapon (you're assessment was correct, done for gameplay reasons :). On the guys ducking, there's actually a bit of timing differences on when they duck (I put it in for the reason you stated, so they didn't all do it at the same time :). Either the video is too small to show the minor off-timing, or the timing isn't long enough. Easy fix :). The BAR wasn't ready to go at the time of the movie, but rest assured they'll be in there :). ------------------ ----------------------- Latuh fuh U, Benson benson@2015.com "We don't introduce or cause bugs in the game, we merely find and bring to light the inadequacies within the code." -regarding level designers |
Yeah i just noticed that one or 2 of the guys on the right duck slightly after the rest http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/smile.gif. Was wondering about the point i made about the plastic sleeves would they be able t make it into the game or is that going a bit extreme? I did notice that one of the officers is runing around with a garand afaik the field officers in ww2 were issued tommyguns or maybe it was personal preference?
The part im talking about is right after you hit the water where the soldier says sir what the hell are we doing here. Btw whos sicko idea was it to have the higgins boat hit by a shell i almost spat my breakfast over the monitor laughing at that http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/biggrin.gif Only thing is though you dont actually see anything hitting the boat, should there not be a shell hitting it that u can see for an instant? |
I thought the timing of the characters when they moved was good.
