Shouldnt there be a lot more guys packed in the Higgins boat. It lookes like in the other boats its pretty packed up with men. I wanna see a boat overflowing wit a lotta guys, that would be cool.

Also who says "Alright men, move fast spread out, and stay of of the beach, Starboard your with Pyle, portside your with me.. bla"
Is it the Captain that survives the landing and you see him later on telling the pvt "Were getting off this damn beach! Move!"
Or are u talking

It actually sounds like he's Saying "Starboard your with Powell, Port side, your with me.." But that doesnt make sense because if your playing Powell which I thought you would be seeing the games about him, you'd have to be on the right side of the higgins boat, Starboard = right, Port = left. Who knows. And the guy whos talking would be the Captain or Sergeant.

i think everyone except powell was killed in the boat, so i think it was a different guy, and he said powell not pyle.

Very good observation BW. I knew they said starboard and I heard something like port but I didn't put two and two together.

No at least two others look like they make it out of the boat. I just want to know if you can die just as easily. Cause it shows like 4 or 5 rounds hit the screen. I know they have God mode on, but I want to be able to die as easily as every other soldier. They need a couple difficulty settings. I just hope they don't screw it up by making you invincible until you get up close with the nazis you know?

The guy talking is the captain in the back of the boat that you can't see. The boat has 11 people in it total, with you (Powell) in the middle. The first 5 guys that try to run out and get shot, you're the first one off of the boat alive with the rest of the troops from the boat forming up around you.

Pretty much, you always make it off of the boat, it's basically an opening sequence to the level to set the mood. No we're not going to make it that historically accurate as you'd be restarting the level 49 times out of 50 to see if you'd be the one surviving :). But yes, once you're in the water after that you'll have plenty of chances to get killed ;)p.

So if that's an opening sequence then alot of that is pre-scripted? Not that it matters, I just ask because with a little bit of randomization I'll be playing that level for years to come. Another question is, how much of the game is pre-scripted. On the sniper alley level will it always be the same guys getting hit from the same sniper in the same spot everytime you play, or will it be random?

elmagoo 07-23-2001 09:46 AM

There are events that are scripted in the game, like Half-Life, only on steriods :). There's a lot of events that are there to provide atmosphere, some are for setting, some are gameplay (as in you interact with them for certain outcomes). It all depends upon that part of the game.

As for the Snipertown level for example. There are a few guys in there that are designed to die in certain sequences, but there are plenty others in your squad where if you don't get the sniper in time, they'll pick them off. Thus the size of your squad will diminish, making certain confrontations later in the level harder. There really isn't a single definition to cover all the events that happen across the game because they are all done to further the gameplay, or interaction, or atmoshpere at the desired times :).

How come we've only heard about a few levels so far?
Approximately how long will the Omaha Beach level take to complete for a rather experienced Half-Life player because I want to play it over and over again.

I like the idea that the faster you kill a guy the longer you're squad lasts and thus the easier a level can get. Elmagoo you better not let EA see this they might think that you're revealing too much. lol
