Don't understand Servers etc.
Hi,
I don't understand the server concept. How can I host my own game and preffably with my I.P ??? (how do I find an I.P ? - do I have to own a dedicated server for this to work ?). Thanks |
There are two ways of doing this.
One host the game server from your computer connected to the Internet. You will have an IP based on what your Internet Service Provider has given you. Just remember this type of connection, even if you have broadband will not be enough to handle more the 4-6 players The other option is to rent a game server from a major provider. They will be are on very large Internet connection and should be able to handle over 16 players easily. The more players the more money it will cost. The aa.com game server is hosted by XGSHosting. For 16 players I pay $75.00 per month. |
Here's how to obtain your IP address:
In Windows 98/98SE/ME: Click Start>Run. Type "winipcfg", no quotes, then press OK. Now, use the drop down menu to select your adapter (Dial-up adapter if you are 56K, if not, look for your ethernet card). "IP Address" is your IP. In WinNT, 2000, XP: Click Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. once the cmd pmpt appears, type "ipconfig /all" no quotes. This will show all network information for your adapters in your PC. Search the one that you use for your connection, and look for the line reading "IP Address". |
