Noobee needs help
 

HI I'M SURE YOURE ALL FED UP WITH PEOPLE LIKE ME BUT WE NEED TO START SOMEWHERE.
I WANT TO SET UP MY PC SO A COUPLE OF FRIENDS CAN PLAY ON LINE WITH ME IN PRIVATE.WHAT DO I DO, I'V BEEN IN TO MY MULTIPLAYER SET UP AND SELECTED THE WAY I WANT IT (IE ;FREE FOR ALL) BUT I HAVENT CHOSEN GAMESPY OR DEDICATED SERVER COS I WANT TO PLAY AND I KNOW A DEDICATED SERVER WONT LET ME. I DONT LIKE GAMESPY SO I HAVE LEFT THESE OPTIONS BLANK,WILL THIS WORK?.I ALSO WANT TO USE A PASSWORD, STATTIK FROM BRIDGESENTRY HAS SUGGESTED I TYPE SOME COMMANDS HE SENT ME IN MY SERVER CONSOLE.WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO I GET IT UP?

u have to enable the consul in the options menu and it allows you to do commands for example a vote. i have heard of this thing called the all seeing eye and maby u could use that. all i did when i wanted to play with my friends was call them up and tell them what i was going to call the game and then just reserve them enough player spots and ur good to go. i use gamespy so i cant really helpp anyone with the all seeing eye and i cant really help you a ton on the gamespy but... maby. anyway just use gamesoy and do what i said. that is the easiest way and it is the way i always do it.

I'm not positive - but I think the only way to password your server is in dedicated mode. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Have your buddies connect to your game via IP address. This way they can go straight in without having to search the in-game browser or Gamespy for it.

The All Seeing Eye is a helluva lot better than Gamespy. You can easily add servers to your favorites list, track your buddies and even issue rcon commands such as passwords, kick players, map changes, etc. to your server without your game even running. And no ads or annoying chat windows!

I agree, I think the only way to password protect a game is to host a dedicated server... Otherwise you'll just have to ask everyone to leave or kick them....

i think if u want to password ur non dedicated server put in set sv_privatepassword passwordhere then put set sv_privateclients whatever the number u want of spots saved. all this is done in the console of course
