Speeding Up Gameplay
Working with MeatGrinder and info from posts here like Rudedogs
helpful information we found his problem It seems that having a nic card or sound card next to the video card can (and did in MeatGrinders case) cause a problem that looks like lag while playing Multiplayer The card set-up was fine for everything else - no problems at all It just caused a problem in multiplayer mode Windows XP is not supposed to have a problem "sharing" IRQs but in this case the sound card and vid card were using the same IRQ. Once we moved the cards around so that the slot next to the vid card was open - the problem was fixed. When the 'puter was restarted Windows reassigned the IRQs and the vid card was on its own IRQ Just a not to anyone who is having "weird" problems like this =[DOA]=BallBuster |
Mmmm...interesting post, this could explain alot. I am su
re my poxy soundcard is assigned to the same irq..../me checks after werk! My problem is not so much choppiness but my ping rockets when there is a lot going on, on the screen?.Normally my ping is around 70-80 but in close combat or large firefights it can go up to 200+ then stabilise when the fight is over and I am dead. Only seems to happen in Mohaa and so far I have tried everything, will try this as well as I hate to think it is my set up that causes this problem, I always thought it was an EA bad netcode issue ? |
You can change IRQ without moving the card. You can go in BIOS and force a PCI slot to use the IRQ of your choice. So you just have to check in Windows wich IRQ are free, verify wich IRQ are compatible with your card, and then force the PCI slot used by this card to use the IRQ you choosed. This can be particularly helpful when all your PCI slots are used and don't want to start a "switching dance" to see witch one works best in wich slot.

I moved my vid card to an empty slot away from my cable connection adapter and my gameplay sped up.

are you not using an agp video card? or do you have multiple agp slots.
