What would more ram do?

More ram wouldnt lower ping it will however improve your systems performance.- Sticks of ram are cheap now days. How many slots do you have meat for more ram?

It's not going to make a lot of difference going over 512Mb. Unless you're on Windows 9X in which case things will work out badly, cos the vtable is capped at 768Mb, and that covers physical memory plus your AGP multiplier times your graphics card memory. Go over that and half the time the poxy thing won't even boot.

If you're on XP or 2K it can smooth things out a little, I run a Gig on my home machine and zap the virtual memory so stuff isn't swapping out.

Your net connection or NIC if you're running local can make a difference, some cheap cards and not worth having...

What do you mean "zap the virtual memory'? How would I do it? (XP) And Von, I have two slots open so I might get 2 more 256's.

Meat make sure you get the same brand of ram you have now. getting 2 more sticks of 256 will make it a total of 1024mb ram. ed:

Under XP (spit!) right click my computer icon, properties, go to advanced, click performance settings, and its in there. Some (shit) games, even from Microsoft, like AOE refuse to run without virtual memory, so I normally drop it down to 1Mb or whatever you can get away with as a minimum.

You'll probably get all kind of dire warnings, just ignore 'em.

So what would this do to my game?

It smooths things out a little, sometimes Windoze decides for reasons best known to itself to swap some physical RAM out to virtual memory on disk. That's slow, and even more slow when an app such as MOH then asks for the memory, cos it has to go back to disk. You notice this with momentary glitches or pauses in game, both single and multiplayer.

The concept of virtual memory is good, its just whatever programmer wrote the algorithm that decides what to swap out when was clearly on drugs....
