Jasper - About TeamSpeak - Advice Pls
I'm currently working on helping out my clan with their website and was asked if I could also host a RW on my server. I was wondering if you could explain the difference between TS and RW and lend any insight you might have on serving either from a webserver.

Cusker, I'm not Jasper, but I can help answer this.
I've used RW for quite awhile, and just recently (about a month or so) RW has problems locating channels. The reason being is because they are trying to convert people to use their base stations instead. This prevents people roaming around RW from joining your channel. Now, don't get me wrong RW is great, but now that they've changed the way it works, it's not all that great for people who want to host a big game. This is where TS comes in. In TS, you can make different channels to organize who is where, so there's less chatter from other players. According to Japser, when V2.0 comes out, it will allow for people to create sub-channels, channels within channels. |
Ok, but the question I have now is setup - sounds to me like TS requires a server to be setup with it which I'm seeing with RW with its RWBS. Is this right? If that's the case, then it would be a matter of which is easier to run and what the restrictions would be from the server...
Thanks for the reply, Joe. |
I didnt do anything but set my TS host up with my host, FastAttack, so I dont know about the differences server side. I send him $$$, he pushes buttons :)
I CAN tell you TeamSpeak uses half the bandwidth that RW does according to my host. He also had the server up in under 5 minutes after D/Lding TS. He also didnt have to register (pay for) the TS server. GameShit requires you to register RWBS before anyone can connect. Why we wound up using TS :P Since the voice quality and ease of setup is about the same (I think), it boils down to ease of use for the player. In order to switch channels in RW you need to install MyTuner RW addon and send everyone a custom MyTuner config file for them to connect. By contrast TS has this funtion built in and all that is required is the user to setup his/her own hotkeys to switch channels. If you want to test TS you may use my server. Post back or drop me a PM and I'll setup a few rooms for your clan to try out TS. |
jasper, a few of us DOA guys been using ts for a few days, its better to hear the grief you have caused your enemy than reading it, hehe
also, 2.0 RC1 is out now, are you gonna switch over now or wait for final? |
Really this request came from Redsoccerdevil for the RW setup. I did a little research into RW, but there's a great deal of technical jargon and I'm too lazy to deal with it right now. But if what you're saying is correct, then I would rather deal with TS anyway. I'll have Red get in contact with you if he wants to setup test channels or whatever.
Thanks! |

all of these voice programs require you to find a host for the server part from what i gather. for this sort of stuff would i need to find/setup my own host of do any of them use a central server?

nah im in OZ and those servers arent inside playable pings.
i meant if i wanted to use them outside of those servers i would have to find a host for them yeah? r3mix |
If I understand your question then yes, both TS and RW ideally should have a dedicated host.

They do. cool:
