G43 and Weapons rarity
Instead of the German regular k98, the G43 should be the equivelent to the M1 garand. Yes many soldiers were issued the regular k98....but in 1944 there were a slim few in a squad (4 in 16 or so) that were issued k98's ...most would have been with an MP40, G43 (the german self-loading rifle) Stg44 or an MG gunner/assistant. Somebody needs to model this weapon...tens of thousands were in the field in 1944. yet EA and all their wisdom decides to model a shotgun that was issued to MAYBE 50 US soldiers in the entire European theater.
There have been a few things that annoyed me that EA didn't include, or included in the game that takes away realism and fun level by at least 30%. One is there is no weapon rarity, or the ability to assign or limit the amount of any certain weapon(s). I often go in a game only to find 7 or more Germans in a squad of 10 using Stg44's ... or the same number of allies using a BAR. This is simply unrealistic and actually depleats the value of gameplay. Also, of person being alotted with 3 grenades (and in case of non-realism servers a rediculous 6....I dunno how you cram 6 Potatoe mashers in your belt, find me an original picture of that...you won't) and everyone gets a side arm. What I, and many others would like to see is a mechanism of some sort where the Host can persrcibe a certain number of weapons for a certain number of people, example: A type of if statement: If there are 10 players (German Assault team) 4 are alotted MP40's, 2 get Stg44's, 2 G43's?, and 2 k98's and 2 grenades and sidearms each. And so on with more rifles/less automatic weapons/greandes for medium and light infantry squads /converted for US units. If there is any way at all something can be done like this it would really proove to be a popular mod/addon in the realism community. As well as eliminating the shotgun, sniper rifles and bazzokas/schrecks out there and replacing them with more common weapons. (in the case of the sniper rifles perhaps like 1 for each side max...even this is quite unrealistic as the percentage of soldiers on either side with a scope was less than 2%) This is not guess work, these statements and suggestions come from years of research, first hand and interviews with real veterans. As I am a WWII reenactor and have done these things in order to better the impression and knowledge of the subject. For those of you out there that feel like replying saying its just a game or 'we don't like realism' ... what I am suggesting wouldn't be affecting your bumbling grenade-throwing shotgun-shooting arcade style unrealism fest that EA has unfortunately created. It would effect the realism servers for the better. |
I totally agree with your complaints about lack of realism. However...
As gameplay is concerned, the amount of weapons is an issue if playing with a undefined number of players. Supposedly you want to set a sort of limit (in percentage) for all weapontypes. The only way then to get a new weapon if the overall balance is within the set limits. Thus implicating that joining for a new player will automatically give a restriction on the possible weapon selection which is just temporary based of the number of weapons of that time. How to count the number of useed weapons . Weapons in hand by player, (cheat coming up by throwing away weapon before teammember with RW joins) or maybe counting the weapons started by all the players . What to do in objective mode type games. Have a long weapon count and fiddle around until finally somebody out of generosity gives up his Stg44 for a G43?? Not to mention the ability to switch weapons during TDM and following problems. Bottom line If you're that keen on fighting the historical way, try to make a new set of clan fighting rules. Clan fights are usually by the rules so why make complicated scripting.. Then make your own mod. Set the ammo low for the odd weapons. That will automatically let people choose a more normal weapon , remove the shotty and RL's and then MOH will be a lot more fun and realistic. Changing the weapon choice itself will definitely lead to too much restrictions and will ruin the game. |
This was something I enjoyed in Day Of Defeat, naturally MOHAA has the sweeter graphics. I would love to have the game modified like that and would be sure to give it a go on the server I assist admin on. I have worked on a G43 mod already. Somewhere along the way the changes messed up the movement visuals....it was quite funny.
As for locking in your weapon type, I did venture into a server where I was unable to change out my weapon. I didn't write down the server name so that doesn't help this conversation now does it. Locking in your weapon class and lowering the ammo would at least spice it up a bit. oOo: |
...was the G43 really that prevalent??? I won’t argue that the 98K is not a "fare" match for the M1 in game, but then again it wasn't a fare match for the M1 in the war. I don't think it's realistic to call the G43 the equivalent weapon in number and issue? Sources I've seen put the number of 98K's produced through the war in the area of 10~13 million... where the G43 and K43 are about 400~500 thousand, ONLY produced in the last 19 or so months of the war! Hardly enough to have been as widely issued as the 98K's. A german soldier was much more likely to find himself facing a M1 Carbine (also not present in the game) than an American soldier was to face a G43. Now I could be wrong, so I would love to see your numbers as well as any specifications for the weapons that you might have...
I even followed the link in your sig and found information that seems to support my view of the G43 and K43... [quote:8d7bb]Quoted from http://www.reenactor.net/WW2/morsels/morsel6.htm Later-on, the semi-automatic K-/G-43 was issued in limited numbers. Although the G-43 was the German equivalent of the M-1 Garand, it was generally only carried by the assistant squad leader in an infantry squad (Unfortunately, American reenactors seem to all feel that they need one of these...). I definitely feel that weapons should be restricted. The STG is an awesome weapon, but even when I'm playing on the axis side, I still cringe to watch ten of them running down a road.
Isn't there any way to do something like America's Army, where there is a limited amount of weapons per map? or server? If the weapon you get is taken, you get a rifle. One Bazooka, one sniper rifle, only two or three SSW's. More SMG's and rifles. If anyone comes up with a way to do this let me know. Also the AA ref is to their menu that shows how many of each are available or in use. It never seemed correct, and you always seemed to end up with a weapon you didn't want, but the concept of having a menu of weapons with a number showing the amount of them left is what I'm looking for. |
I agree.........
On both original points.
A DOD version of game play would be sweet, perhaps Scorpio can come up with something sometime. As lets not forget the US M1 carbine, intended as a replacement for pistols but a great weapon in its way. One could perhaps randomise the spawning so that each weapon is a random choice based on a typical squad loadout. Alternatively something I have been thinking of for my map is to spawn in barracks with limited weapons racks or right on top of a weapon. With ammo dumps around the maps making them strategic points that could perhaps be blown up.......ideas anyway... The possibility of new models is nearer scorpio intends to write a mod for 3Dmax for MOH and who knows what else is in Spearhead and their intention to finally release a full SDK thereafter....here's hoping |
